Our goal is to deliver inviting buildings that are a pleasure to work, live, learn, or play in. We contribute to community through excellence in design and innovation.

Each project we do has a unique story. We hope each captures the spirit of its client and community and enhances the wonder of living. A beautiful building falls short if it doesn’t also speak to us with meaning; if it doesn’t connect with a story; and if it doesn’t contribute to a positive experience.

We believe that good buildings are good neighbours. That may mean they are modest and quiet, or it may mean they need to take a bold stance. As a good neighbour they must understand how they influence others and how the size of their footprint impacts ecosystems and climate change as a whole.

We have become internationally known for our leadership and expertise in building with advanced wood products and technologies, and we love to use these materials where appropriate; that said, we strive to choose systems and finishes for each project based on our clients’ needs.

From our experience we recognize that value and budgets go beyond the construction site and should be considered in respect to the overall operating costs. As designers, we are attentive to issues such as energy performance, durability and overall maintenance; all issues that affect the true cost of building.

Through diversity we find wonder. From the diversity of our projects, clients and staff we gather knowledge from one type of project and hand it to the next, avoiding cookie cutter solutions. Our skylines should be diverse but complementary.

We also believe in possibility. We thrive in the optimism that all projects, big and small, high-end or very modest, can be exceptional if we do what we do best: dream big and walk with our clients on an inventive and ambitious path.

我們鼓勵您在onepercentfortheplanet.org上了解更多信息

Because we can do more together than we can alone, MGA has partnered with 1% For The Planet, an organization that builds, supports, and activates an alliance of businesses committed to creating a healthy planet. Because the practice of architecture and building has enormous impact on the consumption of energy and material resources, we think it is fitting that we donate 1% of our revenues to organizations helping to conserve and protect our planet.  To date, 1% For The Planet has initiated over $50 million in environmental giving. We encourage you to find out more, at onepercentfortheplanet.org

WOOD INNOVATION AND DESIGN CENTRE

Prince George, BC

The Wood Innovation and Design Centre (WIDC) serves as a gathering place for researchers, academics, design professionals and others interested in generating ideas for innovative uses of wood. The University of Northern BC occupies the lower three floors of the building with facilities for the Master of Engineering in Integrated Wood Design Program. Upper floors provide office space for government and wood industry-related organizations, as well as the planned Emily Carr University of Art + Design Centre for Design Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The eight-storey building (6 storey with mezzanine plus penthouse), stands 29.5m tall — at the time of completion it was the world’s tallest modern all-timber structure, serving as a benchmark to be broken by other mass timber buildings in the works.

T3 MINNEAPOLIS

Minneapolis, Minnesota

T3, our new LEED Gold Certified mass timber office building in Minneapolis, is a gamechanger for the commercial building industry and a milestone for mass timber construction in the United States.  It is the first modern timber building to be built in the United States in more than 100 years, and at the time of completion (Sept 2016) the largest in North America.

T3 is a unique approach to office building and an investment in both the past and future of Minneapolis – specifically the rich history of the warehouse district.  We have designed T3 to build on the character of the past with a progressive modern perspective.

As businesses compete to attract and retain staff, T3 offers a modern re-interpretation of the historic building that appeals to young professionals. It celebrates the robust character of historic wood, brick, stone and steel buildings, but provides state of the art amenities, environmental performance, and technical capability needed for competitive businesses in Minneapolis.

The seven-storey, 220,000 sq ft commercial building will offer a mix of retail and office space, integrating into existing transit networks and the historic fabric of the city.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE BC

Vancouver, BC

The new Ronald McDonald House of British Columbia (RMHBC) provides a “home away from home” for out of town families with children receiving medical treatment at BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Growing from their old residence serving 12 families to a new 73 family facility risked a significant shift in the delivery of services and the culture of the new larger home for the RMHBC organization. At the outset, the architect and client sought a solution that would feel like a home and not a hotel. The architect’s ambition was to preserve the nurturing, closely-bonded social connection found in the original 12 family Shaughnessy house. From beginning to end the architect integrated layers to the design that would help families find both solace and community as they go through one of the most significant and challenging moments of life with their severely sick child.

The new House serves 73 families and includes common spaces, kitchen + dining areas, fitness facilities, library resources, office areas, educational space and outdoor play areas. The new facility incorporates the most current building systems available to provide for a safe environment for all children including those with compromised immune systems. The House features an innovative tilt-up CLT wood structure, and is LEED Gold Certified.
