JAAS

JAAS is an architecture practice based in Barcelona, Spain, founded in 1982. Led by Josep M. Julià, Albert Clèries, Jordi Gorgues and Manuel Julià, the office works on public and private commissions in architecture, heritage, urban design and landscape.

The practice conceives architecture as infrastructure for everyday life, creating open, permeable and adaptable frameworks that can accommodate changing uses. Its projects invite collective use and civic appropriation. Working with existing buildings, JAAS favours adaptive reuse, reprogramming and transformation that retain the material and cultural knowledge already present on a site.

The studio approaches sustainability through the full lifecycle of materials, combining construction traditions with passive environmental strategies and principles of circular architecture. It aims to reduce energy demand and prioritise low-impact, carbon-conscious material systems. Its work includes the adaptation of the former Can Batlló industrial complex for an audiovisual school in Barcelona and the Mataró-Maresme Circular Park.
