With its striking geometric forms and bold brick facade, the Samseon-dong Mix-use development by a round architects breathes new life into a dense urban district of Seoul. The L-shaped site prompted an ingenious massing strategy that visually unites the new building with an adjacent existing structure into a cohesive cubic composition.

Using the same red brick cladding across both volumes allows them to be read as a singular architectural statement, despite their differing scales. The architects deftly played with lines, proportions and materiality to forge a harmonious whole from disparate parts. This contextual sensitivity is balanced by moments of sculptural expression that lend the project a distinct contemporary edge.

The highlight is the triangular facade treatment at the corner, which creates a dramatic visual pivot point. With its angular surfaces and protruding brick fins, this striking element imparts a sense of movement and dynamism.
