Japanese architecture firm HIBINOSEKKEI + Youji no Shiro has transformed a former office space into a vibrant kindergarten in Beijing's culturally rich Chaoyang District. The IBG "H" Kindergarten stands out with its innovative approach to early childhood education, blending art, nature, and physical activity in a compact urban setting.

Departing from China's typical large-scale kindergartens, this intimate learning environment prioritizes quality over quantity. The design cleverly maximizes limited space, creating a three-dimensional playground that encourages vertical movement and exploration. A striking external staircase connects all three floors, promoting daily exercise and outdoor play.

Inspired by Beijing's historical nickname "Yanjing" and its association with birds, the kindergarten's concept revolves around children "spreading their wings" as they learn and grow. This avian theme is subtly woven throughout the space, fostering a sense of freedom and imagination.

The project's standout feature is its art-centric approach, reflecting the neighborhood's cultural atmosphere. A narrow gallery space at the entrance showcases both children's artwork and local artists' pieces, seamlessly integrating art appreciation into daily kindergarten life. This unique fusion of education and culture creates an enriching environment where children can develop their sensitivities to art and nature from an early age.
