JAK Architecture
Australia

JAK Architecture is a Victorian architecture practice led by architect Jackson Wylie, with studios in Clifton Hill, Melbourne, and Point Lonsdale on the Bellarine Peninsula. The practice works across Melbourne, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast and the Otway Ranges, focusing on new homes, additions and thoughtful renovations of existing buildings.
The studio begins each project with a close reading of place, allowing light, landscape, texture and local history to shape the architecture. Its work seeks to create warm, generous and characterful spaces while reducing environmental impact through responsibly sourced materials, sustainable construction practices and carefully judged interventions. In renovations, the team recognises and extends the value of existing structures; in new homes, scale, construction, interiors and outdoor life are composed around the site and the needs of the people who will live there.
Recent residential work includes Wood House in Barwon Heads, Fellows House in Point Lonsdale, Hermitage House in Newtown and Cathedral House in Thornton. The 245-square-metre Cathedral House uses two L-shaped forms, a protected central courtyard, timber and board-formed concrete to respond to its hillside setting, bushfire risk and views toward the Cathedral Ranges, demonstrating the studio's place-led approach to durable and enjoyable living.
