Project -- PEBL Cabins, designed by Hello Wood, stands as a poetic expression of prefabricated architectural innovation positioned on a Brooklyn rooftop in New York, United States. This modular cabin system is strategically positioned on an entertainment venue's rooftop terrace, offering spectacular panoramic views of Manhattan, where its distinctive pebble-inspired form and futuristic aesthetics became fundamental to the design approach, highlighting the adaptability of "low-poly" design language in urban environments.
The project's most compelling design achievement lies in its revolutionary three-dimensional shell construction system. Rather than adhering to traditional right-angled architectural norms, the architects established organic geometries as the conceptual starting point, creating a capsule-like configuration that merges premium-level comfort with environmental awareness while proposing a transformative reading of prefabricated architecture's potential. From the initial design conception, PEBL Grand marked the conceptual genesis: a cabin built from complex spatial forms outward, where each functional area maintains a direct relationship with this innovative construction technology.
The architectural narrative unfolds through sophisticated "low-poly" design language, distributed within compact yet efficient spatial configurations with remarkable functional intelligence. The interior houses complete residential amenities, articulated around a central living space with direct relationship to the urban landscape, seeking transparency and openness to the surroundings. The modular design orientates towards versatile applications, integrating with the city skyline through expandable PEBL unit configurations.
The facade treatment demonstrates contemporary design refinement---light and permeable, enhancing the organic shape of the volume through customizable exterior cladding materials that provide adaptability and unity to the whole. Maintenance-free exterior material options, strategically adapted to different environmental requirements, indicate the design's adaptive character and reinforce the cabin's innovative nature.
The material expression embodies profound dialogue with sustainability and innovation. PEBL Cabins is conceived as an architectural innovation that pays homage to prefabricated technology, environmental responsibility, and the essential connection between built material and nature, showcasing the maturity and innovation of contemporary Hungarian architecture when addressing globalized project requirements.
Design Team - Hello Wood, established in 2010, has distinguished itself as an exceptional design & build architecture studio that transcends conventional disciplinary boundaries, seamlessly integrating architecture, product design, education, and sustainable construction into unified design solutions. Based in Budapest, Hungary, with operations extending to multiple countries worldwide, the firm is led by CEO and chief architect András Huszár, co-founder and designer Dávid Ráday, and chairman Krisztián Tóth.
Under the creative direction of Huszár, Ráday, and Tóth, Hello Wood pursues a holistic design methodology that seeks to dissolve disciplinary limits between architecture, education, sustainable design, and social responsibility. Each project translates into a complex system where different layers form innovative dynamics, reflecting their commitment to global collaboration and environmental consciousness.
The firm's design philosophy centers on the principle of "thinking outside the box," a concept that manifests in projects characterized by innovative technology, sustainable materials, and community engagement. Hello Wood's portfolio demonstrates consistent excellence in creating environments that balance functional performance with environmental harmony, establishing the firm as a significant contributor to contemporary wood architecture and prefabricated systems.
The practice understands architecture as an expanded discipline, encompassing cross-cultural practice, practice-based research, and educational exploration. Through comprehensive professional services including architectural design, product development, educational projects, CLT construction, and design consulting, Hello Wood is committed to redefining architecture through innovative sustainable design practices, showcasing the essence and innovation of Hungarian design on the international stage.
