Deadline: 2026-12-11

Established in 1990 and held every three years in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, IFDA connects international designers with one of Japan’s major furniture-making regions. The 2027 edition is the 13th competition; entries must be new, previously unpublished wooden furniture with wood as the primary material.

The jury includes Chief Judge Jin Kuramoto, architect Tsuyoshi Tane, artist and designer Ronan Bouroullec, designer Cecilie Manz, and Asahikawa furniture representative Tetsuya Fujita. Previous editions have received more than 10,000 entries from 79 countries and regions, with many winning designs later commercialized.

Applications run from July 1 to December 11, 2026. The entry fee is JPY 10,000 per work; prizes include a JPY 3,000,000 Gold Leaf Award, Silver and Bronze Leaf Awards, and special jury prizes.
