MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN Architecture Competition

Deadline: 2025-4-11

Deadline: 2025-4-11

The MOUNTAIN GUARDIAN architecture competition, launched by TerraViva, challenges designers to reimagine alpine bivouac experiences within the breathtaking landscape of Stelvio National Park in Italy. This innovative challenge seeks to explore the profound relationship between human architectural intervention and the untamed natural environment, emphasizing concepts of responsibility, respect, and sustainability through a unique temporary shelter design.

Participants are invited to creatively reinterpret the traditional alpine bivouac, transforming it into a contemporary architectural statement that harmonizes with the extreme and marginal mountain terrain. The competition encourages architects to push boundaries and develop designs that not only provide functional shelter but also demonstrate a deep understanding of the delicate ecological balance and human interaction with wilderness spaces.

The competition offers substantial financial incentives, with total prize money reaching $10,418 USD. Prizes include a first-place award of €5,000, second prize of €2,000, and third prize of €1,000, along with additional golden and honorable mentions. The registration timeline spans from November 11, 2024, to April 11, 2025, with the winners to be announced on May 12, 2025, providing ample opportunity for architects worldwide to submit their visionary alpine shelter designs.
