2027 National Urban Design Awards

Deadline: 2027-1-11

Established in 2006, the National Urban Design Awards are presented every two years by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects. The programme recognises urban design that improves quality of life and sustainability in Canadian communities.

The 2027 awards include six categories: Urban Design Plans, Urban Architecture, Civic Design Projects, Urban Fragments, Community Initiatives and Student Projects. Up to 12 projects may receive an award. Eligible projects, plans and studies must be located in a Canadian urban municipality and completed or installed within five years of the entry deadline, subject to the requirements of each category.

The jury considers the response to site and public realm, social and cultural value, accessibility, ecological health, climate action, responsible resource use, multidisciplinary collaboration and positive contributions to reconciliation with Indigenous communities. Entries must be submitted online by 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on 11 January 2027.
