The Architect’s Chair – Stockholm Furniture Fair Edition

Organized by Buildner in collaboration with Stockholm Furniture Fair, the sixth edition of The Architect’s Chair invites participants to extend architectural thinking into furniture design. Through a chair that expresses a distinctive personal design language, entrants are encouraged to explore the relationship between materials, craftsmanship, construction, ergonomics, and innovation. Selected winning proposals will be exhibited at Stockholm Furniture Fair, introducing them to the international design community and the public.

The competition is open worldwide to architects, artists, designers, and other creative professionals. No professional qualification is required, and entrants may participate individually or in teams of up to four. All communication and submitted materials must be in English. A physical chair is not required; concepts may be presented through renderings and other visual material. Benches, stools, and other forms of seating are also eligible.

The competition offers a total prize fund of €8,000: €3,500 for first prize, €2,000 for second prize, €1,000 for third prize, €1,000 for the student award, and €500 for the sustainability award. Registration closes on December 3, 2026, questions are accepted until December 8, and entries must be submitted by 23:59 London time on January 5, 2027. The winners are scheduled to be announced on February 10, 2027.
