The Quiet Tower International Design Competition

Deadline: 2027-2-15

Deadline: 2027-2-15

The Quiet Tower site lies on Latvia’s remote Baltic coastline near Cape Kolka, surrounded by forests, dunes, sea winds, and quiet coastal villages. Initiated by a private owner as part of a retreat centered on simplicity, presence, and connection to nature, the future tower is imagined as more than a viewing platform: it may become a room above the trees, a sheltered pause, or a ritual space for observing weather, sunsets, and distant horizons.

The competition is open worldwide and no professional qualification is required. Entrants may participate individually or in teams of up to four, and all communication and submitted material must be in English. Rather than creating a monumental landmark, proposals should draw on fire lookout towers, dune watchpoints, pilgrimage shelters, and Nordic retreat culture to shape a simple, atmospheric vertical experience with a strong sense of place.

The total prize fund is €10,000: €5,000 for first prize, €2,500 for second prize, €1,000 for third prize, €1,000 for the Student Award, and €500 for the Sustainability Award. Registration closes on January 13, 2027, the competition Q&A deadline is January 18, and entries must be submitted by 23:59 London time on February 15, 2027. The winners are scheduled to be announced on April 6, 2027.
