< 返回 H住宅 R.E.A.D. 团队 – R.E.A.D. Project Name: House "H" Location: Tokyo, Japan Design Team: R.E.A.D. & Architects (Kazuki Okada) Total Floor Area: 223.67 m² Site Area: 326.63 m² Building Area: 145.83 m² Structure: Traditional wooden construction, 2 stories Completion: July 2024 Photography: Nao Takahashi, Kosuke Ino Construction: Kimura Industry Co. The project, located on an irregularly shaped flag lot typical of Tokyo's residential areas, responds to a young family's desire for an unencumbered connection to nature despite being surrounded by neighboring properties on all sides. The architects' ingenious response was to create an H-shaped volume that carves out multiple garden spaces within the site's constraints, each with its own distinct character and purpose. The home's unique configuration creates five different garden spaces that flow seamlessly into the interior spaces. The entrance garden serves as a welcoming threshold, while a concrete-enclosed courtyard on the north side offers a contemplative space. A sun-drenched deck terrace to the south provides an active play area for children, and a traditional tsubo-niwa garden adjoins the tatami room. The second-floor terrace, accessed by a bridge-like corridor, offers a quiet retreat complete with reading benches. The interior spaces are thoughtfully arranged around this garden network. The ground floor features flexible living areas that can be reconfigured through sliding wooden elements in a U-shape, connecting the dining kitchen, living room, and library space. The second floor houses private spaces, including bedrooms that maintain visual connections to the sky and greenery through carefully positioned openings. What sets House "H" apart is its sophisticated approach to privacy. Rather than viewing the flag lot's limitations as constraints, the architects employed perimeter concrete walls to create a protective shell, within which the H-shaped plan creates pockets of exterior space. This strategy transforms what could have been a compromised urban plot into a series of intimate outdoor rooms that allow the family to live without curtains while maintaining their privacy - a remarkable achievement in Tokyo's dense residential fabric. Completed in July 2024, this 223.67-square-meter residence stands as a testament to how thoughtful architectural design can create expansive, nature-connected living spaces even within the most challenging urban contexts. Design Team - R.E.A.D. & Architects, established in December 2017 in Tokyo, represents a significant evolution in contemporary Japanese architecture under the leadership of Kazuki Okada. The firm's philosophy is deeply rooted in its name, which stands for the careful interpretation of Relationships and Environment through Architecture and Design, emphasizing the interconnection between human relationships and environmental context in every project. Founded by Kazuki Okada, an alumnus of Kyoto Institute of Technology and former architect at Taniguchi and Associates (2009-2017), the practice brings extensive expertise from involvement in prestigious projects such as the D.T. Suzuki Museum and the Kyoto National Museum Heisei Chishin Wing. This foundation has shaped the firm's approach to creating architecture that seamlessly integrates technical precision, social responsibility, and artistic innovation. The studio, now led by Principal Architect Kazuki Okada and Interior Design Director Ayako Okada, operates at the intersection of three architectural dimensions: technical expertise, socio-cultural impact, and artistic expression. Their methodology involves a meticulous analysis of site conditions, cultural context, and client requirements, resulting in buildings that transcend mere functional solutions to become enduring contributions to the built environment. The practice has garnered recognition through various awards, including the BCS Award and the Ishikawa Architecture Award, testament to their commitment to excellence in architectural design. Their portfolio spans diverse typologies, from cultural institutions to private residences, each project embodying their philosophy of creating architecture that fosters new relationships and enhanced environments. 2024 Previous Next

Designed by architect Kazuhiro Ise of TETRAWORKS, the secluded getaway on Hiroshima's Momoshima Island provides a tranquil escape immersed in nature. The residence sits just 30 meters from a sandy beach lapped by the gentle Seto Inland Sea waves. To capture panoramic views, Ise devised an ingenious split-level layout, raising the main living quarters to create an expansive viewing pavilion with floor-toceiling glazing framing vistas across the strait. This projecting glazed box defines the home's sculptural profile, an eye-catching form that reinterprets the traditional island vernacular. Inside, the airy interiors seamlessly blend with a walled courtyard, extending the living spaces outwards. Maximizing the idyllic island setting, Ise's restrained yet expressive design offers a rejuvenating immersion in Setouchi's unspoiled coastal landscape. Design Team - Founded in 2019, TETRAWORKS is a Hiroshima-based architectural design firm led by principal architect Kazuhiro Ise.

In the heart of Chengdu's Luhu Eco-City, the Luhu CPI Island project by JILI Architecture emerges as a groundbreaking urban renewal initiative, seamlessly blending architectural innovation with the city's laid-back ethos. This 7,000-square-meter development transforms a cluster of abandoned villa showrooms into a vibrant commercial and social hub, redefining the relationship between waterfront living and urban dynamics. JILI Architecture's approach, inspired by Japanese philosopher Kiyokazu Washida's concepts of "heinessei" (everyday warmth) and "tanke" (subtle scenery), masterfully captures Chengdu's renowned relaxed atmosphere. The project's design philosophy centers on creating spaces that embody the city's quintessential "comfortable" lifestyle, locally known as "bashi." The architects have ingeniously repurposed ten existing structures and introduced ten new buildings, crafting a harmonious ensemble that respects the site's original spatial relationships while infusing new life. A standout feature is the clever manipulation of micro-topography, resulting in a series of terraces and split-level spaces offering privacy and captivating views. The project's unique design elements include expansive grey spaces that blur the lines between architecture and nature, simplified cubist forms that exude approachability, and a cohesive color palette that unifies diverse materials. Six distinct functional clusters, each anchored by inviting plazas, create a network of interconnected spaces that encourage exploration and social interaction. This thoughtful urban intervention not only revitalizes a forgotten island but also serves as a testament to Chengdu's evolving urban identity – a place where tradition and innovation coexist in perfect harmony. Founded in 2014, VARY Design has rapidly established itself as a dynamic force in the architectural landscape of China. Feature: Project - Kengo Kuma's Hangzhou Xiaohe Park Reinvigorates Industrial Heritage: Japanese architect Kengo Kuma has transformed an abandoned oil factory site along the Grand Canal in Hangzhou, China into a lively public park that pays homage to the area's industrial past. The 51,000-square-metre Xiaohe Park deftly weaves new interventions with preserved historical elements, creating a rich tapestry of old and new. The standout feature is the sprawling ETFE canopy that gently drapes over the entire site, unifying the park with a gossamer, tree-like veil. Mimicking the dappled light filtering through leaves, the canopy's customized dot-printed pattern casts a soft, diffuse glow. This ephemeral cover connects the repurposed warehouses and oil tanks that have been transformed into event spaces, shops, and a sunken garden. Kuma's light touch is evident in his minimal interventions that retain the gritty, industrial essence. The original exposed concrete and red bricks are complemented by Corten steel accents, celebrating the site's heritage. Strategic openings in the canopy allow vegetation to punch through, further blurring the lines between industrial relic and natural oasis. With Xiaohe Park, Kuma presents a sensitive example of adaptive reuse that breathes new life into disused infrastructure while preserving tangible links to the past. The translucent canopy hovers like a protective aura, making this rejuvenated area a beacon along the historic Grand Canal. Design Team - Founded in 1990 by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA) has established itself as a global leader in thoughtful, context-driven design. With a team of highly skilled professionals across offices in Tokyo, Paris, Beijing, and Shanghai, the firm has completed innovative projects in over 40 countries, seamlessly blending architecture with the natural environment. From large-scale cultural institutions to intimate residential retreats, KKAA's portfolio showcases a mastery of scale and typology, united by a commitment to sustainability and an innate understanding of how architecture can foster meaningful relationships between people and their surroundings. With Kuma at the helm, KKAA continues to push the boundaries of contemporary architecture, integrating innovative technologies and traditional craftsmanship to realize visionary designs that redefine the role of the built environment. As the firm enters its fourth decade, its reputation for excellence and innovation continues to grow, solidifying its position as a global leader in the field. Previous Next

  • Río住宅 LABarq | Archicasting

2025 Previous Next

IGArchitects | Archicasting

2025 Previous Next

  • GM住宅 Didonè Comacchio Architects | Archicasting

2025 Previous Next

  • Simple Design Archive 美术馆 HAS design and research | Archicasting

< 返回 Simple Design Archive 美术馆 HAS design and research 项目名称:Simple Design Archive 地点:安徽省合肥市,中国 设计团队:HAS design and research 总建筑面积:440 m² 竣工时间:2024年 摄影:W Workspace 设计特色: 项目 - HAS design and research在中国合肥揭幕了Simple Design Archive美术馆 - 这是一个占地440平方米的空间,巧妙地模糊了建筑、自然和声音之间的界限。 Project Name: Simple Design Archive Gallery Location: Hefei, Anhui Province, China Design Team: HAS design and research Lead Architects: Jenchieh Hung, Kulthida Songkittipakdee Total Area: 440 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: W Workspace Lighting Consultants: Jenna Tsailin Liu, Visual Feast (VF) Landscape Consultant: Weili Yang Construction Consultant: Zaiwei Song Contractor:Guangdong Xingyi Decoration Group Anhui Co., Ltd Feature: Project - HAS Design and Research has unveiled the Simple Design Archive Gallery in Hefei, China – a 440-square-metre museum space that masterfully blurs the boundaries between architecture, nature, and sound. The project stands as a testament to how thoughtful design can create sanctuary-like spaces within busy urban environments. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Huangshan Mountain, architects Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee have crafted a series of curved walls that form the building's distinctive entrance. Unlike traditional museums that open directly to their surroundings, these undulating walls create what the architects call an "echo chamber" courtyard – a poetic intervention that both shields the interior from urban noise and cultivates a unique acoustic environment. The museum's innovation lies in its sophisticated approach to environmental design. The curved walls serve multiple functions: they act as noise barriers, create dynamic light patterns throughout the day, and establish a microecosystem that attracts local wildlife. This careful consideration of natural elements transforms the space into more than just a gallery – it becomes a living, breathing entity that changes with the rhythms of nature. Inside, the flowing forms continue, with curved walls extending seamlessly from exterior to interior. The gallery space features a dramatic five-meter-high skylight that works in concert with a seasonal forest garden, creating ever-changing patterns of light and shadow. The art and materials library, housing contemporary Asian artworks and modern Northern European furniture, employs continuous walls that double as display surfaces and storage solutions. What sets this project apart is its successful integration of seemingly contradictory elements: it's both a protective sanctuary and an open, flowing space; a carefully curated gallery and a natural ecosystem; a modern architectural intervention and a spiritual retreat. The Simple Design Archive Gallery represents a new typology of cultural space – one that prioritizes experiential quality and environmental harmony while fulfilling its primary function as a museum and archive. Design Team - HAS design and research, established by Jenchieh Hung and Kulthida Songkittipakdee with offices in Bangkok and Shanghai, has emerged as one of Asia's most innovative architectural practices. The firm's philosophy centers on a unique "design + research" methodology that explores the intersection of natural and manufactured environments in contemporary Asian urbanism. The practice's design approach, which they term "The Improvised, MANufAcTURE and Chameleon Architecture," investigates the synthesis between urban phenomena and architectural intervention. Their portfolio encompasses cultural institutions, religious architecture, installations, and experimental projects, with a particular focus on how temporary structures and informal spaces can create new forms of "nature" within dense urban environments. Under the leadership of Hung and Songkittipakdee, both acclaimed for their academic and professional achievements, the firm has garnered numerous international accolades, including the 2024 Architonic Top 10 Curated Projects and the 2023 INDE Award. Their work is characterized by a sophisticated understanding of materiality, tectonic expression, and environmental sensitivity. The firm's research-driven approach extends beyond conventional architectural practice, with both principals serving as visiting professors at prestigious institutions and contributing to architectural discourse through publications, exhibitions, and lectures, establishing them as key figures in shaping contemporary Asian architecture. 2024 Previous Next

2024 Previous Next

Project Name: Phe La Da Nang Cafe Location: Da Nang, Vietnam Design Team: 6717 Studio Total Floor Area: 300 m² Completion: 2023 Photography: Hiroyuki Oki Feature: Project - Vietnamese architecture studio 6717 Studio completed the Phe La Da Nang Cafe project on Nguyen Van Linh Street in Da Nang, creating a harmonious 300-square-meter tea house that seamlessly blends modern architectural language with traditional Vietnamese architectural elements, elevating the cultural ritual of Oolong tea drinking into a contemporary spatial experience. More than just a popular spot for Oolong tea, this tea house offers a unique and tranquil experience that brings guests closer to nature. The project's most compelling design feature lies in its sculptural interpretation of natural forms------the architects masterfully drew inspiration from ocean waves and the iconic Pomu wood roofs of Vietnam's Central Highlands, defining an architectural language characterized by soft, flowing curves that evoke a sense of calm and fluidity. The large sweeping roof and central atrium not only serve functional purposes but also create a gentle architectural transition between the ground floor and the upper level. These curves act as spatial bridges, seamlessly connecting intimate ground-floor nooks with the airy expanses above. Architectural forms here are more than structural------they guide light like a sculptor shapes form. Carefully curated openings allow natural light to flow in through slender windows and narrow skylights, blurring the boundaries between inside and out. In this dialogue between solid and void, light and material, the architecture becomes an exploration of space, time, and perception. Most striking is the building's material expression strategy, though modern in silhouette, the space is grounded in raw, sensory materials: cool Thanh Hoa stone underfoot, earth-toned rammed earth walls that breathe with the environment, and the subtle scent of Pomu wood overhead. The interplay between wood and steel furnishings, softened by the gentle glow of rattan pendant lights, creates a mood that is both peaceful and inviting, a place where authentic city and simplicity feel refreshingly new yet comfortingly familiar. Traditional Vietnamese architectural elements such as water ponds and open verandas have been reinterpreted with restraint and grace. The veranda acts as a threshold extending the interior into the urban fabric while welcoming the outdoors inward. Meanwhile, the calm reflecting pool at the entrance does more than cool the air; it marks a symbolic boundary, a serene pause between the vibrant city and the introspective sanctuary within. Light is a central protagonist in the design of Phe La. Subtle LED lighting enhances the natural textures of the walls and furnishings, creating a poetic contrast of brightness and shadow, of nature and craft. Design Team - 6717 Studio stands as a distinguished multidisciplinary practice located in Ho Chi Minh City, specializing in architectural design, interior design, and civil construction since its establishment in the early 2010s. Apropos Architects | Archicasting

Project Name: Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025 Location: Osaka, Japan Design Team: Apropos Architects Total Floor Area: 2121 m² Completion: 2025 Photography: BoysPlayNice Feature: Project - Prague-based Apropos Architects has designed a striking timber and glass pavilion for the Czech Republic at Expo 2025 Osaka, featuring a continuous 260-metre spiral pathway that winds through the structure like a physical manifestation of "life energy and continuous development". The translucent pavilion strategically occupies a prominent corner where the coastal promenade meets the main boulevard, creating an architectural focal point that appears to defy gravity with its upward-expanding silhouette. Its transparent façade, constructed from artistic plate glass, serves dual purposes – referencing the Czech Republic's rich glassmaking heritage while creating a dynamic exhibition space that transforms with the changing daylight. "The architecture encourages upward movement and physical activity, while the exhibition inspires mental reflection," explained the studio. "Together, they create a space that connects the movement of body and mind." Rising 16 metres and composed of 36 segments that transition from circular at the base to elliptical at higher levels, the pavilion guides visitors along a spiraling journey through four floors of exhibition space. This kinetic experience culminates at a spacious observation deck twelve meters above ground, crowned by a distinctive rooftop structure housing the VIP lounge with panoramic sea views and a dramatic glass skylight offering views directly down into the central auditorium. The building's structural integrity is achieved through an innovative system of cross-laminated spruce CLT panels forming a central truss that incorporates staircases and an elevator. This timber core anchors the pavilion while horizontal slabs shape both the outward-facing exhibition spiral and inward-facing balconies of the multifunctional auditorium space. Renowned Czech visual artists enhance the architectural experience with site-specific installations. Visitors enter through Rony Plesl's monumental crystal sculpture before encountering Jakub Matuška's expansive 200-metre narrative painting that unfolds along the entire spiral path – a metaphorical reflection of human endeavor complemented by Lunchmeat Studio's immersive multimedia installations. The pavilion serves as a contemporary homage to the Czech pavilion from Expo '70, also held in Osaka, creating a dialogue between architectural heritage and forward-thinking design that embodies the exhibition's theme: "Talent and Creativity for Life". Design Team - Apropos Architects is an international architecture studio based in Zurich, Prague, and The Hague, founded by Michal Gabaš, Tomáš Beránek, and Eva Gabaš Rosenová in 2016 after winning their first competition. Before establishing the firm, the founding team worked at several internationally renowned architectural offices, including Herzog & de Meuron, Annette Gigon/Mike Guyer Architekten (Switzerland), and Global Architects (Netherlands). Apropos Architects employs a collaborative design approach, focusing on brainstorming, debate, research, and drawing. The office considers their practice a continual creative and educative process based on communication and trust with clients and sub-planners. They focus on the local context and clients' needs, searching for the most suitable solution until all aspects are considered and all wishes satisfied. The firm's design scope covers tasks of all scales, typologies, and project phases—from small interior elements to large masterplans, from schematic studies to construction drawings and field engineering. Their goal is to create architecture, public space, and objects that fulfill contemporary and future requirements on quality, aesthetics, functionality, and ecology. The firm's core philosophy is that good design is achieved through profound understanding of context and honest expression of materials. Their work is characterized by meticulous spatial sequencing, careful material selection, and attention to detail, creating architecture that responds to site-specific conditions while maintaining tectonic clarity. 2025 Previous Next

This innovative project, completed in 2023, reimagines the traditional souk for the 21st century, creating a vibrant community hub that celebrates local culture and sustainable design. The market's most striking feature is its open layout, which blurs the boundaries between shops and walkways. This fluid transition between indoor and outdoor spaces encourages free movement and social interaction, evoking the atmosphere of a traditional marketplace while catering to contemporary needs. Situated between a new speedway and the majestic Hajjar mountains, the market's design responds sensitively to its surroundings. The architecture incorporates local materials, including stones sourced from nearby tunneling works, grounding the project in its context. The stepped roofs and stone-clad walls create a visual dialogue with the mountainous landscape, while generous overhangs provide shade and reduce energy consumption. Sustainability is woven throughout the project, from its rainwater management system to its use of natural light and ventilation. Each shop features two glazed walls and sliding glass doors, allowing for flexibility and connection to the outdoors.

2025 Previous Next

2025 Previous Next

GROUNDWORK | Archicasting

In a striking blend of elegance and urban grit, The Veil City Lounge emerges as a captivating oasis in Shenzhen's Sungang district. Designed by Groundwork Architects & Associates, this innovative space redefines the community hub concept, drawing inspiration from the delicate artistry of Chinese landscape painting. The Veil's most arresting feature is its sculptural interior, dominated by gracefully curved walls that evoke the fluid lines of ink-wash paintings. These undulating surfaces create a seamless flow throughout the three-story structure, guiding visitors on a sensory journey between light and shadow, openness and intimacy. Groundwork's founder, Manfred Yuen, has masterfully integrated form and function, transforming a former sales center into a multifaceted urban retreat. The design juxtaposes the building's glass exterior with its soft, organic interior, creating a harmonious contrast with the surrounding neighborhood's rugged character. Natural light plays a crucial role, filtering through geometric roof windows and trellises to cast ever-changing patterns on the curved walls. This interplay of light and shadow brings the space to life, imbuing it with a dynamic energy that evolves throughout the day. The Veil houses a diverse array of spaces, including a café, library, exhibition areas, and work zones, all designed to foster community interaction and individual contemplation. Each floor offers a unique atmosphere, from the dramatic central atrium to the serene upper-level library with its panoramic city views. This project stands as a testament to the power of architectural poetry, offering Shenzhen residents a tranquil haven where they can connect, create, and find moments of repose amidst the urban bustle. The Veil City Lounge is more than just a building; it's a cultural landmark that celebrates the art of space-making and the enduring allure of Chinese aesthetics in a contemporary context. Founded in 2007 in London and formally established in Hong Kong in 2011, GROUNDWORK has rapidly emerged as a vanguard in the field of experimental architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture. Project Name: Diriyah Art Futures Center Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Design Team: Schiattarella Associati Building Area: 12,000 m² Completion Year: 2024 Photographers: Mohamed Somji, Antoine Horenbeek, Hassan Al Shatti, Guido Petruccioli Feature: Project - Nestled on the desert's edge near Riyadh, the Diriyah Art Futures Center emerges as a groundbreaking cultural landmark that seamlessly weaves architectural innovation with the rich historical fabric of the Nejd region. Designed by Italian architectural firm Schiattarella Associati, this 12,000-square-meter complex stands as the Gulf's first museum dedicated to digital arts, embodying Saudi Arabia's ambitious 2030 Vision of cultural transformation. More than just a museum, the center is a sophisticated dialogue between contemporary design and ancient landscape. Strategically positioned adjacent to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Diriyah's historic city, the building defies conventional museum typologies. Instead of a compact structure, it unfolds as a series of elongated volumes that horizontally extend across the Hanifa Valley, creating a dynamic interplay of spaces that echo the region's traditional architectural principles. The architects' vision is radical in its approach: to create a building that appears to grow organically from the earth itself. "We wanted the architecture to feel like it emerged from the ground," explains Amedeo Schiattarella. This philosophy translates into a design that respects and responds to its context, with narrow, cooling passages and carefully considered volumes that reconnect urban and agricultural zones. Sustainability is intrinsic to the project's DNA. The center achieves zero waste through intelligent use of local materials and passive design strategies. Utilizing local stones, raw earth, and lime, the building establishes a powerful material continuity with its site. Innovative features like geothermal cooling and rainwater recycling demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship that goes beyond mere aesthetics. The interior is equally compelling. Paola Schiattarella has crafted spaces that blend local materiality with contemporary functionality. From modern interpretations of traditional mashrabiya wooden screens to underground laboratories bathed in carefully choreographed natural light, the center becomes a canvas for artistic exploration and cultural innovation. As a pioneering project under Saudi Arabia's cultural renaissance, the Diriyah Art Futures Center is not just a building—it's a statement. It challenges global architectural homogenization, celebrating instead the unique potential of place, tradition, and forward-thinking design. Design Team - Founded in 1970, Schiattarella Associati has emerged as a groundbreaking architectural practice that transcends conventional design paradigms. Headquartered in Rome, the firm has consistently challenged architectural orthodoxies by exploring the profound relationship between geometric precision and spatial randomness, establishing a unique design philosophy that views architectural voids as fundamental design elements. Led by the visionary trio Amedeo, Andrea, and Paola Schiattarella, the practice has distinguished itself through an experimental approach that transforms each project into a rigorous architectural investigation. Their methodology seamlessly integrates complex geometric principles with dynamic spatial configurations, creating environments that dialogue intimately with their contextual landscapes. With a robust portfolio spanning Europe and the Middle East, Schiattarella Associati has developed a reputation for innovative cultural and public space interventions. The firm's international project experience—including significant commissions in South Korea and recent groundbreaking work in Saudi Arabia—demonstrates their ability to translate local architectural vernaculars into contemporary design languages. Their recent Diriyah Art Futures Center exemplifies their design ethos: a project that emerges organically from its desert context, challenging global architectural homogenization while celebrating site-specific architectural expression. By consistently pushing disciplinary boundaries, Schiattarella Associati continues to redefine architectural discourse in the 21st century. 2024 Previous Next

  • F 住宅 KamakuraStudio | Archicasting

Project Name: HOUSE F Location: Nagareyama, Japan Architecture Firm: KamakuraStudio Lead Architects: Keisuke Fukui, Keisuke Morikawa Design Team: Keisuke Fukui Technical Team: Keisuke Morikawa Area: 168㎡ Completion Year: 2022 Photography: Koji Fujii (Torel), Shinkenchiku-sha, Keisuke Fukui (KamakuraStudio) Feature: Project - Japanese architecture firm KamakuraStudio has designed a hybrid home-office in Japan that reimagines community engagement through thoughtful architectural intervention, challenging the conventional boundaries between private and public spaces. Named House F, the 168-square-metre building serves as both the architect's residence and studio, with its ground floor deliberately designed as a fluid, community-oriented space that invites casual neighborhood interaction. The project responds to the unique context of its location – a relatively new residential area where 75 percent of residents have moved in within the last decade. The most striking feature of the design is its innovative approach to indoor-outdoor connectivity, achieved through a seamless treatment of materials, architectural elements, and floor levels. This continuity is further enhanced by a distinctive diagonal opening that cuts through the building's upper levels, allowing southern light to penetrate while creating space for an ambitious vertical garden. What sets House F apart is its integration of "micro-interventions" – small, thoughtful design decisions that foster community engagement. The ground floor transforms fluidly between various functions: a café where extra coffee is shared with neighbors, an impromptu library filled with community-donated books, and an occasional cinema space complete with a projector. The building's facade is particularly noteworthy for its three-dimensional planting strategy, which builds upon an existing neighborhood "plant-sharing network." This green element creates a forest-like atmosphere through alternating terraces and interior rooms in both plan and section. Since its completion in 2022, House F has become a catalyst for community interaction, hosting various events from workshops to film screenings. The project demonstrates how architecture can serve as a tool for social cohesion, offering a fresh perspective on sustainable community building in the face of Japan's aging society and population decline. Design Team - Founded in 2016, KamakuraStudio is an emerging Japanese architectural practice that has rapidly established itself as a significant voice in contemporary Japanese architecture. Led by co-principals Keisuke Fukui and Keisuke Morikawa, both graduates of Nihon University's Department of Architecture, the firm operates from their base in Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture. The practice's portfolio spans an impressive range of typologies, from single-family residences and multi-unit housing to commercial facilities and public institutions. Their contextual approach to architecture is characterized by a sophisticated understanding of spatial hierarchy and programmatic flexibility, particularly evident in their integration of public and private realms. KamakuraStudio's design philosophy centers on what they term "maximizing connections" - a methodology that carefully considers the intersection of built form with social infrastructure. This is exemplified in their award-winning HOUSE F project, where the traditional boundaries between residential and community spaces are thoughtfully dissolved. Under the leadership of Fukui, who previously worked at NAP Architects, and Morikawa, whose experience includes Kume Sekkei and Kitagawara Atsushi Architecture & Urban Design Institute, the firm has developed a distinctive approach to contemporary Japanese architecture that emphasizes social sustainability and community engagement through architectural intervention. 2022 Previous Next
