Fuu | Archicasting

Project:Honcourt Team:f+f architectes Size:2130 m² Location:Maisonsgoutte, France Feature: Project - Nestled in the picturesque Vosges mountain range of Alsace, France, the recently completed Honcourt School by f+f architectes stands as a testament to thoughtful, sustainable design in educational architecture. This 2,130-square-meter facility, completed in early 2024, seamlessly integrates a school and afterschool center into its stunning natural surroundings. The project's most striking feature is its adherence to the rigorous PASSIVHAUS standard, a rarity in educational buildings. This German certification ensures ultra-low energy consumption, slashing heating costs to a mere tenth of conventional structures while elevating user comfort through superior thermal, acoustic, and air quality performance. f+f architectes' design artfully navigates the site's challenging topography, embedding the structure into the natural slope. This clever manipulation of levels allows kindergarten classrooms and common areas to occupy the lower ground floor, while elementary classrooms on the upper ground floor enjoy direct access to outdoor play spaces. The building's aesthetic is a study in restrained elegance. A concrete base grounds the structure, while locally sourced chestnut wood clads the façade, creating a warm, contextual dialogue with the surrounding landscape. Large windows and strategically placed skylights flood the interiors with natural light, framing breathtaking views of the Alsatian countryside. Inside, the architects have crafted a nurturing environment that prioritizes flexibility and comfort. A minimalist material palette provides a neutral backdrop for children's artwork, allowing young imaginations to take center stage in personalizing the space. The result is a building that not only serves its educational purpose but also stands as a new architectural landmark for the community, seamlessly blending function, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. Design Team -Founded in 2010 by Aurélie Fechter and Johan Fritzell, f+f architectes has established itself as a dynamic force in the European architectural landscape. Based in Strasbourg, this practice embodies a holistic and contemporary approach to design, tackling projects that range from intimate interiors to expansive urban planning schemes. The firm's portfolio showcases a mastery of diverse typologies, including cultural facilities, residential developments, and adaptive reuse projects. f+f architectes distinguishes itself through a rigorous methodology that prioritizes context-sensitive design, emphasizing materiality, proportions, and cutting-edge technical solutions. Leveraging advanced BIM modeling and high-quality visualizations, the practice ensures precision in both design and execution. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in projects like the Honcourt School, which adheres to the stringent Passivhaus standard, exemplifying their ability to merge environmental responsibility with architectural excellence. Project Name: Phe La Da Nang Cafe Location: Da Nang, Vietnam Design Team: 6717 Studio Total Floor Area: 300 m² Completion: 2023 Photography: Hiroyuki Oki Feature: Project - Vietnamese architecture studio 6717 Studio completed the Phe La Da Nang Cafe project on Nguyen Van Linh Street in Da Nang, creating a harmonious 300-square-meter tea house that seamlessly blends modern architectural language with traditional Vietnamese architectural elements, elevating the cultural ritual of Oolong tea drinking into a contemporary spatial experience. More than just a popular spot for Oolong tea, this tea house offers a unique and tranquil experience that brings guests closer to nature. The project's most compelling design feature lies in its sculptural interpretation of natural forms------the architects masterfully drew inspiration from ocean waves and the iconic Pomu wood roofs of Vietnam's Central Highlands, defining an architectural language characterized by soft, flowing curves that evoke a sense of calm and fluidity. The large sweeping roof and central atrium not only serve functional purposes but also create a gentle architectural transition between the ground floor and the upper level. These curves act as spatial bridges, seamlessly connecting intimate ground-floor nooks with the airy expanses above. Architectural forms here are more than structural------they guide light like a sculptor shapes form. Carefully curated openings allow natural light to flow in through slender windows and narrow skylights, blurring the boundaries between inside and out. In this dialogue between solid and void, light and material, the architecture becomes an exploration of space, time, and perception. Most striking is the building's material expression strategy, though modern in silhouette, the space is grounded in raw, sensory materials: cool Thanh Hoa stone underfoot, earth-toned rammed earth walls that breathe with the environment, and the subtle scent of Pomu wood overhead. The interplay between wood and steel furnishings, softened by the gentle glow of rattan pendant lights, creates a mood that is both peaceful and inviting, a place where authentic city and simplicity feel refreshingly new yet comfortingly familiar. Traditional Vietnamese architectural elements such as water ponds and open verandas have been reinterpreted with restraint and grace. The veranda acts as a threshold extending the interior into the urban fabric while welcoming the outdoors inward. Meanwhile, the calm reflecting pool at the entrance does more than cool the air; it marks a symbolic boundary, a serene pause between the vibrant city and the introspective sanctuary within. Light is a central protagonist in the design of Phe La. Subtle LED lighting enhances the natural textures of the walls and furnishings, creating a poetic contrast of brightness and shadow, of nature and craft. Design Team - 6717 Studio stands as a distinguished multidisciplinary practice located in Ho Chi Minh City, specializing in architectural design, interior design, and civil construction since its establishment in the early 2010s. Under the leadership of Principal Architect Le Viet Hoi, the firm has cultivated a distinctive design philosophy that seamlessly integrates Vietnamese vernacular traditions with contemporary architectural language, creating spatially sophisticated and culturally resonant built environments. The studio's design excellence has been consistently recognized through prestigious national and international accolades. Their residential expertise garnered the National Architecture Award 2018 Bronze Award in the single-family house category for Khánh House, while their hospitality design prowess earned the National Architecture Award 2021 Bronze Award in the hotel and resort category for Hoi An Ơi Villa. The firm's innovative approach to retreat architecture was further acknowledged with the KOHLER Bold Design Award 2021 in the tourism-resort category for Trúc Lâm Anh Retreat. 6717 Studio's architectural methodology demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of climatic responsiveness, material authenticity, and spatial continuity. Their projects consistently exhibit masterful light manipulation, thoughtful integration of natural elements, and contextual sensitivity that respects local building traditions while embracing progressive design principles. The practice's portfolio spans residential, hospitality, and commercial typologies, each characterized by meticulous attention to detail, sustainable design strategies, and innovative structural solutions that address Vietnam's unique tropical climate and cultural context. The practice's design thinking revolves around exploring the balance between tradition and modernity, seeking intersection points of cultural heritage and contemporary innovation from the beginning to the end of projects. Through comprehensive professional services including architectural design, interior design, and civil construction, 6717 Studio is committed to showcasing the profound cultural foundation of Vietnamese architecture and the infinite possibilities of contemporary design through innovative design practices, demonstrating the unique charm and innovative spirit of Vietnamese architecture on the international stage.

Project Name: iFLYTEK AI Headquarters Campus (Phase I) Location: Hefei, China Design Team: line+ studio Area: 84,627 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: Arch-Exist, AOGVISION, line+ Feature: Project - Chinese architecture firm line+ studio has completed the first phase of iFLYTEK's AI headquarters in Hefei, creating a sprawling 84,627-square-metre campus that reimagines the traditional corporate headquarters as a public-facing urban park integrated with sustainable design features. The headquarters, which will eventually span 400,000 square metres and house 15,000 employees, introduces the innovative concept of a "supercell" - an organizational approach inspired by biological systems and artificial intelligence networks. This concept allows the campus to function as a self-growing, interconnected organism that can adapt and expand within the urban fabric. "The project challenges conventional notions of corporate architecture by prioritizing public accessibility and environmental integration," explained line+ studio. "We first planned a city park, and only then constructed the headquarters within it." The studio's design emphasizes vertical development paired with horizontal connectivity, featuring a series of towers linked by elevated walkways and public spaces. The buildings are characterized by continuous terraces and rooftop tracks that blur the boundary between office environment and parkland, creating what the architects call a "headquarters in the park, park within the headquarters" experience. A distinguishing feature of the complex is its sophisticated facade system, which employs a dual approach: the exterior presents a tech-forward aesthetic using anodized aluminum panels and colored glazed glass, while the interior interfaces with small-scale ecological gardens. The facade's horizontal linear language is complemented by an innovative BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaics) system that incorporates solar panels seamlessly into the architectural design. Inside, the workspace design moves away from traditional office layouts, organizing functions into four distinct modules: work, meetings, recharge, and communication. The interior spaces include a "shared theater" in the northern atrium and a "cohabitation square" in the southern atrium, fostering a campus-like atmosphere that promotes collaboration and creativity. The project's sustainable features extend beyond its solar integration, with the design incorporating extensive green spaces, natural ventilation systems, and energy-efficient materials. The campus serves multiple roles: as a public urban park, a creative workplace, and what line+ describes as a "spiritual home" for iFLYTEK employees. By combining technological innovation with ecological sensitivity and public accessibility, line+ studio has created a new paradigm for corporate architecture that responds to both environmental concerns and changing workplace dynamics in the tech sector. Design Team - Founded in late 2017, gad · line+ studio emerged as a pioneering force in Hangzhou's architectural landscape under the visionary leadership of Meng Fanhao and Zhu Peidong. This innovative design atelier has rapidly established itself as a "creative factory" at the forefront of market-driven architectural solutions. At its core, line+ studio embodies the concept of boundary transcendence. The "line" in their name represents the architectural foundation, while the "+" signifies their commitment to cross-disciplinary innovation. This unique approach allows the firm to seamlessly integrate planning, architecture, interiors, product design, operations, and landscape architecture. Led by Meng Fanhao, a recipient of the prestigious 2021 RIBA International Prize, line+ studio has garnered numerous accolades for its cutting-edge designs. The firm's portfolio showcases a diverse range of projects, from urban public spaces to high-end residential developments and rural revitalization initiatives. line+ studio's design philosophy is rooted in critical thinking and contextual sensitivity. By balancing urban sophistication with rural engagement, and local cultural research with commercial viability, the firm has positioned itself as a crucial mediator between cultural heritage and contemporary market demands. With a growing presence in Hangzhou and Shanghai, line+ studio continues to push the envelope of traditional practice. Their commitment to spatial quality through professional expertise and value creation through innovation solidifies their position as a transformative force in the architectural industry.

Feature: Project - In a dense Tokyo neighborhood, architect YUKIO ASARI of Love Architecture has carved out a remarkable urban refuge with "Renzankyo - Urban Mountain Residence." Situated at the end of a cul-de-sac and hemmed in by neighboring buildings, the site initially felt enclosed and oppressive. However, Asari's ingenious design transforms this challenging plot into an immersive architectural experience inspired by traditional Japanese tea houses and gardens. The U-shaped building hugs the boundaries, shielding residents from the surrounding urban fabric while creating an intricate procession of interior pathways and exterior spaces. Asari masterfully plays with perspectives, blurring the lines between inside and out. From the central courtyard, the staggered gabled roofs evoke a serene mountain landscape, while rooms offer framed views reminiscent of meticulously composed tea garden scenery. Material choices further enhance the poetic vision. Charred cedar cladding conjures images of dusk-lit peaks, while interior details like mud walls, shoji screens, and bamboo mullions transport one into a traditional tea room aesthetic. Yet this romantic concept deftly merges with functional solutions tailored to daylight, privacy, and Tokyo's stringent building codes. With "Renzankyo," Asari has crafted an extraordinary "urban mountain residence" - a phenomenological oasis that allows inhabitants to viscerally experience the beauty of traditional Japanese design principles amidst the dense city fabric. Design Team - Established in 2001 by principal architect YUKIO ASARI, Love Architecture is a pioneering Tokyo-based firm renowned for its poetic reinterpretations of traditional Japanese architectural concepts and masterful contextual design solutions. Under Asari's visionary leadership, the practice has garnered numerous accolades, including multiple Japan Institute of Architects (JIA) Excellence Awards for projects like the Yaseiden Temple (2019), Jimonji-in Chapel and Cemetery (2018), and Nakano Kunmokkusō residence (2017). Love Architecture's oeuvre seamlessly amalgamates rich cultural heritage with contemporary needs. Their residential works, such as the award-winning Koganei House (2013) and Akazutsumi Housing Development (2017), deftly respond to site constraints while evoking the sublime serenity of traditional tea houses and gardens. Spiritual architecture like the Ryūzen-ji Yaseiden Temple (2016) exemplifies their profound understanding of sacred geometries and symbolic spaces. With an exceptional design team headed by Asari, a graduate of Musashino Art University, Love Architecture continues to push boundaries, crafting phenomenological experiences that redefine the intersection of the built and natural environments. Their innovative approach has cemented the firm's reputation as one of Japan's most influential and celebrated practices.
