YH2 Architecture | Archicasting

Snøhetta | Archicasting
Craig Dykers、Michelle Delk、Matthew McMahon、Aaron Dorf、Kurt Marsh、Dan Marty与Prince Langley共同主持。
Denegri Bessai Studio | Archicasting
Project Name: North York Ravine House Location: Toronto, Canada Design Team: Denegri Bessai Studio Total Floor Area: 7080 ft² Completion: 2024 Photography: Scott Norsworthy Feature: Project - Denegri Bessai Studio has completed their remarkable renovation project - North York Ravine House on the edge of a ravine in Toronto's North York neighborhood, transforming a mid-century modern bungalow into a light-filled contemporary home for a young family with three children. This 7080-square-foot structure masterfully balances the preservation of modernist character with the fulfillment of contemporary family needs. The project's most distinctive feature is its innovative treatment of the main floor, where the architects replaced a series of small compartmentalized rooms with an expansive, airy living area spanning nearly the entire length of the house. This bold intervention is complemented by a floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall at the rear, creating an almost seamless connection between interior spaces and the natural landscape. These architectural elements interact with the newly vaulted Douglas Fir ceiling to create rhythmic spatial experiences, adding dimensionality and warmth to the environment. The spatial composition demonstrates a profound understanding of harmony, achieving balance between preserving modernist spirit and enhancing functionality. The central structural pier, thoughtfully clad with handmade TATA tiles from Mexico City - a nod to the client's heritage - becomes an artistic focal point. The team's careful consideration of family experience is reflected in the second-floor addition, whose bridge-like footprint creates valuable space without compromising the building's modernist form. The project's uniqueness lies in its successful integration of respectful preservation and innovative design. The "peek-a-boo" lookout serves both children's playful needs and creates space for family interaction, while the unified natural materials create a perfect canvas for the ongoing dialogue between light, shadow, and architectural form. This project represents a significant achievement in residential renovation, transforming architecture into a medium that both respects history and faces toward the future. This is not merely a residential renovation but a vivid lesson in how thoughtful design can transform outdated spaces into meaningful environments that nurture modern families, setting new standards for residential design in Canada's rapidly evolving urban landscape. Design Team - Founded by partners in both work and life, Maria Denegri and Tom Bessai, Denegri Bessai Studio has established itself as one of Canada's most innovative architectural practices, renowned for balancing academic rigor with family-centered design solutions. This Toronto-based firm employs a unique dual leadership approach where Maria Denegri's strong coordination skills and pragmatic project management complement Tom Bessai's expertise in computational design, prototyping, and fabrication. The studio excels in creating residential environments that are simultaneously adventurous and livable, with a particular focus on meeting the evolving needs of urban families. Their design philosophy hinges on deep client engagement, producing spaces that are truly personal while remaining sensitive to budget constraints. Currently, the firm is led by its founding principals along with team members Michal Bartosik, Alexia Hovis, and Cameron Manore, who bring additional expertise to their collaborative approach. Both principals maintain strong academic connections as lecturers at the University of Toronto's John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. Maria is a Past Chair of the Toronto Society of Architects and an active member of its Executive, while Tom leads the studio's prototyping, fabrication, and computation division, approaching each project with boundless energy and curiosity to explore innovative possibilities. Denegri Bessai Studio's portfolio demonstrates their ability to seamlessly integrate innovative construction technologies with thoughtful spatial arrangements—creating architecture that combines technical sophistication with the joy and wonder of everyday living.

Project Name: HOUSE F Location: Nagareyama, Japan Architecture Firm: KamakuraStudio Lead Architects: Keisuke Fukui, Keisuke Morikawa Design Team: Keisuke Fukui Technical Team: Keisuke Morikawa Area: 168㎡ Completion Year: 2022 Photography: Koji Fujii (Torel), Shinkenchiku-sha, Keisuke Fukui (KamakuraStudio) Feature: Project - Japanese architecture firm KamakuraStudio has designed a hybrid home-office in Japan that reimagines community engagement through thoughtful architectural intervention, challenging the conventional boundaries between private and public spaces. Named House F, the 168-square-metre building serves as both the architect's residence and studio, with its ground floor deliberately designed as a fluid, community-oriented space that invites casual neighborhood interaction. The project responds to the unique context of its location – a relatively new residential area where 75 percent of residents have moved in within the last decade. The most striking feature of the design is its innovative approach to indoor-outdoor connectivity, achieved through a seamless treatment of materials, architectural elements, and floor levels. This continuity is further enhanced by a distinctive diagonal opening that cuts through the building's upper levels, allowing southern light to penetrate while creating space for an ambitious vertical garden. What sets House F apart is its integration of "micro-interventions" – small, thoughtful design decisions that foster community engagement. The ground floor transforms fluidly between various functions: a café where extra coffee is shared with neighbors, an impromptu library filled with community-donated books, and an occasional cinema space complete with a projector. The building's facade is particularly noteworthy for its three-dimensional planting strategy, which builds upon an existing neighborhood "plant-sharing network." This green element creates a forest-like atmosphere through alternating terraces and interior rooms in both plan and section. Since its completion in 2022, House F has become a catalyst for community interaction, hosting various events from workshops to film screenings. The project demonstrates how architecture can serve as a tool for social cohesion, offering a fresh perspective on sustainable community building in the face of Japan's aging society and population decline. Design Team - Founded in 2016, KamakuraStudio is an emerging Japanese architectural practice that has rapidly established itself as a significant voice in contemporary Japanese architecture. Led by co-principals Keisuke Fukui and Keisuke Morikawa, both graduates of Nihon University's Department of Architecture, the firm operates from their base in Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture. The practice's portfolio spans an impressive range of typologies, from single-family residences and multi-unit housing to commercial facilities and public institutions. Their contextual approach to architecture is characterized by a sophisticated understanding of spatial hierarchy and programmatic flexibility, particularly evident in their integration of public and private realms. KamakuraStudio's design philosophy centers on what they term "maximizing connections" - a methodology that carefully considers the intersection of built form with social infrastructure. This is exemplified in their award-winning HOUSE F project, where the traditional boundaries between residential and community spaces are thoughtfully dissolved. Under the leadership of Fukui, who previously worked at NAP Architects, and Morikawa, whose experience includes Kume Sekkei and Kitagawara Atsushi Architecture & Urban Design Institute, the firm has developed a distinctive approach to contemporary Japanese architecture that emphasizes social sustainability and community engagement through architectural intervention.

Project Name: Folded Ground Location: Seoul, South Korea Design Team: LIFE Architects Area: 1108 m² Completion: 2023 Photography: Kyungsub Shin Feature: Project - South Korean architecture firm LIFE Architects has completed a commercial building in Seoul's vibrant Hongdae district that features a distinctive folded concrete facade wrapping around three sides of its exterior. The Folded Ground Neighborhood Facility, situated adjacent to a playground near Hongik University, responds to its dynamic urban context through a sculptural approach that mediates between public and private spaces. The 1,108-square-metre building, completed in 2023, stands as a thoughtful architectural intervention in one of Seoul's most energetic neighborhoods. Led by architects Jeeyoung Han and Sooyong Hwang, the project's most striking feature is its continuous concrete skin that folds and overlaps across three facades, creating what the architects describe as an "expansive ground" that responds to the site's diversity. This structural element does more than just define the building's aesthetic – it serves as a sophisticated device for framing views and controlling the relationship between interior and exterior spaces. The diagonal concrete structure deliberately fragments external views, creating dynamic, multifaceted frames when viewed from within. This architectural strategy allows the building to maintain its commercial visibility while providing appropriate privacy for office spaces, effectively balancing the needs of a mixed-use facility in a high-traffic urban environment. What sets this project apart is how it creates moments of tranquility within Seoul's chaotic streetscape. The building's thoughtfully designed voids, balconies, and structural elements provide users with a sense of shelter from the overwhelming visual noise of Hongdae's signage and buildings, while still maintaining a connection to the neighborhood's energy. The vertical circulation through the building becomes an experiential journey, with users feeling as though they are moving through the structure itself, discovering unexpected views and spatial relationships along the way. Design Team - LIFE Architects, established in Seoul, South Korea, represents a dynamic architectural practice that seamlessly merges innovative design thinking with contextual sensitivity. Led by principals Jeeyoung Han (KIRA registered architect) and Sooyong Hwang (Adjunct Professor at Hongik University), both holding Master's degrees in Architecture, the firm has cultivated a distinctive approach to architectural interventions in urban environments. Since its founding, LIFE Architects has demonstrated their expertise through a diverse portfolio of projects, garnering recognition including the 2021 Korea Architecture Culture Award in the Emerging Architect category and the 2021 Jeju Architecture Award in the residential sector. Their design philosophy emphasizes the intricate relationship between architecture and everyday life, pushing beyond conventional architectural boundaries to explore new spatial possibilities and material applications. The practice's methodology is characterized by their rigorous investigation of urban conditions and innovative material applications, as evidenced in projects like the Folded Ground Neighborhood Facility (2023). Their work consistently demonstrates a commitment to transforming rigid urban landscapes through thoughtful architectural interventions that respond to contemporary social and environmental demands. LIFE Architects maintains a collaborative studio culture, combining the expertise of experienced designers with fresh perspectives from emerging talents. Their interdisciplinary approach integrates architecture, urban design, and research, resulting in projects that challenge traditional typologies while maintaining a strong connection to their context and users.

Henning Larsen | Archicasting
Visa's striking new Building in San Francisco's Mission Rock neighborhood takes inspiration from California's iconic natural landscapes. Designed by Henning Larsen, the 13-story tower is a centerpiece of the new mixed-use development, establishing it as a place to work, live, and play. The building's ruggedly sculpted white facade evokes the basalt rock formations found in Yosemite National Park's Devils Postpile. Carved into smaller bays, the faceted precast concrete captures shifting light and shadows, giving the monolithic volume an ever-changing appearance befitting its waterfront location. "Drawing inspiration from the geologic formations of Yosemite, our design distills these influences into a 'neighborhood' scale by carving the massing into smaller bays, evoking the charm of San Francisco's traditional neighborhoods," explained Daniel Baumann, Partner and Design Director at Henning Larsen. The carved massing creates a dynamic formal expression from street level, reminiscent of the city's famous topography. Outdoor terraces wrap the tower from the second to fifth floors, crowned with wind-sheltered rooftop gardens offering views of the San Francisco skyline and bay. Part of the larger Mission Rock development by Tishman Speyer and the San Francisco Giants, the Visa building establishes an architectural centerpiece anchoring the new 28-acre neighborhood with residences, offices, parks and amenities. Founded in 1959 by Danish architect Henning Larsen, the eponymous firm has carved out a reputation for masterfully blending daylight into their designs - earning Larsen himself the moniker "the master of light." - GM住宅 Didonè Comacchio Architects | Archicasting

Situated on a corner plot facing a school route, the architects devised an ingenious RC concrete wall that curves around the ground floor private quarters, deftly balancing privacy with considerations for pedestrian flow. This sculptural "fence" envelops the site, thoughtfully integrating planter boxes and rounded corners to facilitate seamless movement. Its interior forms an enclosed exterior space for activities like sauna cool-downs, heightening the sense of seclusion. Unified with the projecting eaves, the wall's slit apertures create a striking play of light and shadow. Upstairs, the open-plan living area is gently delineated through ceiling height variations and two balconies that blur indoor/outdoor boundaries. These semi-outdoor living extensions enhance cross ventilation and daylighting while reinforcing their distinctive purposes. Yosuke Takatsuka reflects, "We constantly explore what constitutes a universally enriching lifestyle here, keeping in mind the community, customs and climate shaped by regional events." This seventh project within 1km of their Iwata office exemplifies TYdo's localized approach to architectural placemaking.

TETRO Arquitetura | Archicasting
Architizer A+Awards、World Design Awards、Architecture & Design Collection Awards等奖项,并入选Architectural Digest的AD100榜单。 Project Name: Seriema House Location: Belo Horizonte, Brazil Design Team: TETRO Arquitetura Total Floor Area: 350 m² Completion: 2025 Photography: Luisa Lage Feature: Project - TETRO Arquitetura has completed their latest masterpiece - Seriema House, situated in a bucolic refuge on the outskirts of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. To access the residence, visitors must cross a mountain range, a journey that marks a transition. Leaving behind urban noise, one enters a serene environment fully integrated with nature. The design team created a 350-square-meter dwelling positioned between two distinct landscapes: on one side, a wide, open view of mountains; on the other, a dense forest full of trees. In this balance between expansive vistas and shaded refuge, the house fits harmoniously. Seriemas, birds typical to the region that roam freely around the property, inspired the residence's name. The project's most distinctive feature is its poetic, winding wall covered in black stone, which divides the house into two worlds. On one side lies the welcoming space: bright, filled with sounds, music, and movement, with open mountain views. On the other, the retreat space: silent, introspective, immersed in forest shadows, dedicated to rest and reading. Materiality reinforces the connection with the landscape. The sinuous black stone wall creates a dramatic contrast with the white stone flooring. Conceived as more than a home, the house was designed as a space for pause—a place to read, rest, contemplate the landscape, and share moments with friends. Seriema House embodies time, river, mountain, and cave. It is, above all, poetry in architectural form. Design Team - Founded in 2001, TETRO Arquitetura is an architectural practice based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, working globally under the leadership of architects Carlos Maia, Débora Mendes, and Igor Macedo. The studio focuses on reinterpreting Brazilian modernist traditions through innovative design approaches that reimagine the relationship between architecture and nature. The practice's methodology is anchored in rigorous research of site conditions and client requirements, seeking unique and irreplicable solutions for each project. Their design language features integration with natural surroundings, the expressive use of raw materials, and sophisticated exploration of spatial voids. The team takes Brazilian modern architecture as a starting point, rethinking its core concepts to provide innovative responses to contemporary architectural challenges. TETRO's multidisciplinary team develops projects across various typologies, including residential, commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, and museums. Their work has received numerous international recognitions, including the Architizer A+Awards, World Design Awards, and Architecture & Design Collection Awards, alongside inclusion in Architectural Digest's AD100 list. The firm ranks among the top 10 in Architizer's "25 Best Architecture Firms in Brazil" and has participated in the Venice Biennale in both 2021 and 2023. TETRO Arquitetura's design philosophy combines technical excellence with cultural heritage values, creating works that embody Brazilian architectural spirit with global relevance. Their residential projects, such as Seriema House, demonstrate a profound understanding of natural context and a unique ability to express architectural poetry through spatial composition.
MVRDV | Archicasting
