The architectural intention was to express the brand's identity of “functional minimalism” while overlaying an organic imagery onto the modernist building archetype. Constrained on a small warped site, the facade became the sole outlet for architectural expression. Careful modulations in bay widths and floor heights give a sense of expandability and openness. The curtain wall grid divides the narrow frontage into accurate one-third segments, with slight deviations on the corner bays to achieve visual equality. The loftier ceilings on upper levels allude to the yearning for more light and air, not unlike the upward growth of plants. The exposed interior behind the glass, where sturdy braces replace beams to minimize visual clutter, essentially forms part of the layered facade. Vertical cut-through voids connect the split retail floors into singular spaces, most notably the entrance level which is left almost floorless, preparing visitors for an art installation floating in the voluminous air. Overall, rather than closing in, the sensitive treatment of the facade and section lends this compact building a valiant lightness against its dense urban surroundings. The Japanese architect, known for his nature-inspired approach, has created a unique curvilinear form that carves out sweeping arcs to preserve the surrounding views. These scooped-out balconies, lined with wood, create an organic rhythm along the façade and connect residents with the outdoors. At ground level, an open-air moss garden and amphitheatre form a welcoming green space that engages the community. The design approach centers around the "iron" used in cooking, creating a continuous spatial narrative woven with iron elements. A custom iron emblem emblazoned with the restaurant's initial "Y" was developed, utilizing the local cast iron craft tradition. These 3D curved emblems, mass-produced from 3D printed molds, adorn lighting fixtures, tabletops, the logo, and wine displays, unifying the brand identity throughout. The existing building underwent major structural reinforcement, with a large void carved out above the open kitchen. Guests can enjoy the chefs' choreography while circulating through a sequence of public and private dining areas, experiencing contrasting scenes of rustic Bengala red earth walls and vivid indigo blue waterproofed areas. Exterior iron frames juxtaposed with glass and stone hint at the iron-infused interiors. Open kitchen lighting, framing, railings, and balustrades all manifest iron's presence.
