  • HarPie 住宅 Nathalie Thibodeau Architecte | Archicasting

Studio GAB | Archicasting

Designed by architect Liu Xiang, this striking edifice is part of the ambitious Xichang Jianchuan Film Museum settlement, a sprawling complex dedicated to celebrating the magic of cinema. The museum's most distinctive feature is its composition of five cylindrical volumes, inspired by traditional film reels and projectors. These circular forms, varying in height and size, create a dynamic silhouette that seems to dance against the backdrop of Xichang's tropical highland landscape. The central cylinder serves as the main hall, while the surrounding four house specialized exhibition spaces, each dedicated to different aspects of film memorabilia and merchandise. Drawing influence from the rich cultural tapestry of the local Yi ethnic minority, the building incorporates circular motifs prevalent in Yi art and festivals. This cultural sensitivity extends to the interior, where umbrella-shaped exhibition halls pay homage to traditional Yi craftsmanship. The museum's facade, clad in perforated titanium panels and accented with wood-grain textures, creates a play of light and shadow reminiscent of cinematic techniques. A curved glass entrance hall breaks away from conventional museum design, offering a welcoming gesture to visitors. Covering over 3,000 square meters, the Film Derivative Museum not only showcases an extensive collection of movie-related artifacts but also provides interactive spaces that bridge the gap between film history and contemporary culture.

L'Atelier Senzu | Archicasting

Feature: Project - The newly completed Le Vau Pavilion stands as a pioneering exemplar of sustainable architecture and community engagement. Crafted from rammed earth and wood within a school complex in Paris, the distinctive circular structure fosters connections on multiple fronts. Conceived in response to the need for more welcoming and egalitarian educational spaces, the innovative design accommodates varied arrangements while its all-encompassing facade rejects conventional hierarchies. Strategically situated between the street and school building, the pavilion bridges contexts in form and function. Its aesthetically striking round shape, accentuated by a slatted wooden exterior, creates an inviting arena for collective learning that contrasts with the orthogonal Lines of traditional institutions. The choice of rammed earth as the primary material, a first for a load-bearing building in Paris, brings structural integrity and appealing thermal properties in service of sustainability. As a convergence of diverse concerns - the imperative to decarbonize construction, the need for inclusive pedagogical environments, and the goal of building community ties - the Le Vau Pavilion stands as a resounding success. Its exemplary approach points the way forward for educational architecture and sustainable construction practices in urban settings. Design Team - L'Atelier Senzu upholds a workshop culture emphasizing teamwork and exchange of ideas, combining members’ expertise to create design schemes collectively. Our method is to hybridize perspectives and knowledge, blending ancient wisdom with novel technologies, preserving traditional essences while tackling challenges optimistically and responsibly. We constantly question how to build more sustainably, seeking innovative alternatives to energy-intensive materials. We believe this paradigm shift must be grounded in material experimentation. Therefore architects must collaborate closely with manufacturers.

Habitat Studio Architects | Archicasting

Henning Larsen + espen surnevik | Archicasting

Project Name: Højvangen Church Location: Skanderborg , Denmark Design Team: Henning Larsen + espen surnevik Total Floor Area: 1500 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: Rasmus Hjortshøj】 Engineering: Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl, Ramboll Landscape Architecture: Schul Landskab & Planlægning Client: Skanderborg Parish Feature: Project - Danish architecture studio Henning Larsen completed a revolutionary contemporary church building in Skanderborg, redefining the role of the church in modern society through innovative non-directional spatial design and sophisticated light manipulation. Højvangen Church marks the first new church built in the parish for over half a millennium, representing a striking exception in an era marked by church closures and increasing secularization. Strategically located on the outskirts of Skanderborg, Denmark, this 1500-square-meter building honors Danish architectural heritage while embracing contemporary ideas of community and spirituality. The church's most distinctive feature lies in its centripetal layout design, with the baptismal font positioned at the absolute center of the building rather than at the traditional altar end. This central placement allows views to open in all directions——toward the forest, cemetery, and old church tower——reinforcing the idea of the church as a "civic clearing" rather than a directional space. Henning Larsen's ingenious spatial solution challenges traditional church layouts, creating a flexible interior space without formal front or back that feels both open and intimate yet sacred. The surrounding walls shift between solid and transparent, forming pockets of privacy that balance openness with intimacy, and community with personal reflection. This adaptable "clearing" can accommodate a wide variety of events, designed to include everyone. The building's gently undulating façade invites in shifting natural light throughout the day. Permeable walls filter and shape this light to create a dynamic interplay of shadow and atmosphere, making the architecture itself part of the spiritual experience. Materials such as brick, oak, and brass create a warm, timeless atmosphere. From the outside, the church appears as a sculpted pavilion set into the landscape, connected to the existing church center by a partially underground corridor. Most notably, the project extends Henning Larsen's design philosophy into furniture design, with the studio partnering with Danish furniture maker Brdr. Krüger to design a new stackable church chair named Ekko. The chair combines elegance with durability and is certified to the highest EU standard (L2) for extreme use, marking Henning Larsen's return to furniture design after 60 years. Design Team - Founded in 1959 by Danish architect Henning Larsen, Henning Larsen has established its international reputation for mastery in daylight manipulation and sustainable design excellence. Under the current leadership of Managing Director Jacob Kurek——who began as an intern in 1997 and has guided the firm's global expansion for nearly three decades——Henning Larsen continues to push boundaries across architecture, landscape, urban design, and interiors. The studio's design philosophy centers on manipulating daylight as a tangible material, earning founder Henning Larsen recognition as "the master of light" within the architectural community. This light-centric approach, rooted in the founder's childhood experiences in Western Jutland, remains a defining characteristic of the practice's contemporary work. The architects maintain acute attention to detail whilst never losing sight of the bigger picture. The firm maintains a global presence with over 600 employees, with design communities spread across studios in eight countries. Their portfolio demonstrates exceptional versatility, spanning cultural institutions, educational facilities, and urban masterplans while consistently emphasizing environmental responsibility and social impact. The studio is committed to navigating the complex connections that bind together built environment, ecological systems, and societies at large, manifesting lasting change through co-creation, innovation, and cultivation. Henning Larsen's design excellence has been recognized through prestigious accolades including the 2012 Præmium Imperiale Architecture Laureate, the 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture——Mies van der Rohe Award for Harpa Concert Hall, and the 2019 European Architect of the Year Award. Feature: Project - Nestled on a narrow 9m x 38m plot in Singapore, the House of a Thousand Leaves by ZIVY Architects reinvents the multi-generational home with an ingenious inward-looking design. Rather than segregated private zones, this three-and-a-half story semi-detached house fosters connectedness through shared spaces that encourage chance encounters between family members. The pièce de résistance is the soaring quadruple-volume atrium at the heart of the home. Oriented north-south, it capitalizes on natural ventilation with breeze block endwalls that create a wind-tunnel effect. The tapered concrete blocks filter dappled light and rain, completing the biophilic experience along with deep skylights and integrated greenery across levels. But the atrium is far more than just a sculptural centerpiece. It doubles as an open circulation core, with a continuous perforated metal mesh staircase that visually connects all floors. Full-height glazing along the interior atrium wall furthers sightlines and airflow into the adjoining living spaces occupied by individual family units. Sustainability prominently features, from solar panels to repurposed walnut chip flooring in the tea room. By cleverly intertwining nature and multi-generational living, ZIVY has crafted an adaptable tropical haven for occupants to grow together over decades to come. Design Team - Founded in 2019 by Loh Zixu and Evy Sutjahjo, ZIVY Architects is a Singapore-based practice guided by the belief that great design emerges through rigorous exploration and a keen attention to detail. The firm's collaborative approach places inclusive design sessions at the heart of every project, transforming briefs from ordinary to extraordinary. Led by Zixu and Evy, both Registered Architects with the Board of Architects Singapore and Corporate Members of the Singapore Institute of Architects, ZIVY's work prioritizes creating richly layered spatial experiences imbued with purpose and personality. Through close collaboration with industry consultants and academic mentorship roles, ZIVY actively enriches the architectural discourse. Their purposeful, peoplecentric approach positions them as an ascending force redefining Singapore's built environment.

8x8 Design Studio Co. | Archicasting

Feature: Project - Set atop a hill in Calatagan, Philippines, the striking PK House designed by 8x8 Design Studio serves as a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Filipino Bahay Kubo. The 2400 sqm weekend retreat comprises three cascading volumes that create a tapering pyramidal form, providing shade and framing panoramic views of the surrounding tropical landscape. Anchoring the home is the ground floor Silong, conceived as a fluid communal area with an elongated ironwood dining table at its core. This flows into exterior courtyards and pools, blurring indoor/outdoor boundaries. Cantilevered above is the transparent Bulwagan living pavilion, enveloped in full-height glazing that opens fully via sliding panels. At the top, the private master suite has turnable windows that allow it to become one with the exterior deck. The steel-framed volumes employ overhangs as solar shading devices and are finished with weather-resistant materials to withstand the seaside climate. Inside, bleached wooden surfaces evoke traditional Philippine architecture, offset by contemporary furnishings and sculptural light fixtures. An Inoki soaking tub makes a striking statement in the master bath. Overall, the project translates vernacular influences into a tranquil modern sanctuary that connects with the surrounds. Design Team - Founded in 2012 by partners Adrian Alfonso and Pearl Robles, 8x8 Design Studio is a young architecture firm based in Makati, Philippines dedicated to crafting inspired spatial environments. The name "8x8" stems from the concept of multiplying infinities to develop novel approaches in composing space. Infinities are core to their design process, embedded in each project through studies of site spatial opportunities and program requirements. 8x8 rigorously explores strategies for lightness, object stance, and spatial grain to grow an architectural vocabulary that defines new directions for Philippine architecture. As a small studio catering to select projects, 8x8 offers substantial design control from conception through realization. Detailed 3D modeling and comprehensive attention to detail ensure designs are precisely translated into built form. Specializing in modern architecture, they provide fresh residential, commercial, and hospitality solutions encompassing architecture and interiors. Their recent accolades include Arch+ Planetary Urbanism publication in Germany and the Philippines Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Feature: Project - The new SKIN1004 flagship store in the heart of Myeong-dong, Seoul emerges as a striking presence with its textured rock façadecontrasting with the glass storefronts typical of the neighborhood. The space artfully brings the essence of “untouched nature” into the urban setting through rich earth tones, organic shapes and textures that reference the untamed landscapes of Madagascar. Upon entering the craggy stone frontage, visitors traverse reed-lined “trails” and encounter swaying video walls depicting natural scenes, fostering an immersive multisensory connection with raw, primordial nature. Carefully orchestrated lighting and visibility between the exhibition-focused ground floor and the product lounge and retail area above enhance the continuity between the spaces tied together by an organic sculptural centerpiece. The innovative scheme spearheaded by Korean firm LMTLS liberates the brand identity from clichéd representations of nature with vibrant sand-hued tones and rough-hewn textures belying the sophisticated blend of natural inspirations filtered through contemporary form. The creative approach shapes an intriguing and unexpected haven contrasting the teeming urban activity outside, standing as a distinctive retail environment where cosmetics emerge as if concentrated from the very essence of the earth. Design Team - LMTLS is a New York & Seoul based architectural design group whose three co-founders, Daeho Lee, Beomki Lee, and Jaeyual Lee, began their collaboration at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) during their Master of Architecture studies. Founded in 2015, the firm is committed to catalyzing change through innovative design, navigating towards the optimal design direction for each project. S.O.S Architects | Archicasting

SPACE DOT | Archicasting

Project Name: MAY DAY CAFE Location: Yeoju-si, South Korea Design Team: SPACE DOT Total Floor Area: 330 m² Completion: 2022 Photography: Courtesy of SPACE DOT Feature: Project - SPACE DOT transformed a site in the historic village of Taepyeong-ri, Yeoju into May Day Cafe. Completed in 2022, the project fully embodies the core philosophy of providing "complete rest" spaces for urban dwellers. Taepyeong-ri has historically been a place where scholars traveling to Hanyang for civil service examinations would pause to rest, named for its peaceful and harmonious energy. The design of May Day Cafe began with a clear concept: creating a space that could "embrace the sky." The architects were inspired by a towering cedar tree named "Owol-i" (May) at the center of the site, whose form—branching skyward from a single trunk into two arms—directly influenced the cafe's twin-building configuration. The architects positioned Building A to house the kitchen and staff areas, while Building B opens panoramically through floor-to-ceiling windows on all four sides, offering unobstructed views of the mountain ridgeline. The core highlight of the project is its sensitive response to the site's disrupted topography from development. To conceal the incongruous retaining walls created by construction, Building A was strategically arranged as a screen, while Building B, positioned at the village's highest point, maximizes connection with the natural landscape. The architects chose stone and wood as primary materials—elements once native to the land—as a gesture of homage to the nature lost to development. In terms of material selection, the architects deliberately chose elements that echo the site's original natural state. Stone and wood finishes serve not only as aesthetic choices but also as environmental memorials. Tranquil reflecting pools on either side of the building capture the ever-changing colors of the sky as they shift with wind, while a large window beneath the grand roof fully frames the sky and scenery of Taepyeong-ri, and lower side windows bring in natural light that transforms with the seasons. The lighting design emphasizes the seasonal variations of natural light, with the interplay of warm timber and overall white spatial voids creating a soothing and serene atmosphere. The central cedar "Owol-i" serves not only as the source of design inspiration but also becomes a key element symbolizing the cafe's identity—a space providing May-like warmth, comfort, and stability for rest. By combining cultural memory, natural inspiration, and contemporary architectural design, SPACE DOT created a modern sanctuary that transcends traditional commercial spaces, authentically expressing a contemporary interpretation of Korea's traditional rest stops, providing a place of tranquility and restoration for weary urban travelers. Design Team - SPACE DOT was established in 2021 by Seungwon Lee and Kyung Il Kim. The firm specializes in hospitality and commercial architecture design, known for its unique understanding of spatial fundamentalism—believing that architecture begins with individual points that aggregate into lines, surfaces, and ultimately cohesive spatial experiences. The firm's representative works demonstrate their commitment to contextually responsive design, gaining international recognition within just a few years, including the UNESCO Prix Versailles 2024 for Restaurants, the iF Design Award 2025 in Interior Architecture (one of the world's top three design awards), and the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2024 Asia-Café category. Under the continued leadership of Seungwon Lee and Kyung Il Kim, SPACE DOT has established its position among Korea's emerging architectural practices. The firm's design methodology transcends conventional aesthetic considerations, prioritizing sensory and emotional engagement while maintaining functional performance. They demonstrate particular expertise in adaptive site strategies, material authenticity, and biophilic design integration. SPACE DOT's creative philosophy emphasizes that each project should carry unique brand narratives, combining the cultural significance of place with contemporary functional requirements. They believe space is the art form closest to our lives, therefore committed to creating architectural experiences that not only impress visually but also resonate with users on sensory and emotional levels. The May Day Cafe project fully demonstrates their exceptional ability to transform brand concepts into architectural experiences.

EASTERN Design Office | Archicasting

Feature: Project - EASTERN Design Office has crafted an extraordinary residential sanctuary in Japan that distills architecture down to its most monolithic and primordial forms. The Stone Garden Residence is a tour-de-force of sculpted concrete, characterized by two elongated walls that stretch 47 meters across the site, punctuated only by a solitary towering aperture. This daring exercise in reduction eschews ornament, allowing the robust geometry of the rectilinear volumes to speak for itself. By stripping away extraneous detail, the architects have produced a work of profound simplicity and power that seems to emerge from the landscape itself like a ancient remnant. The austerity of the architectural forms is counterbalanced by moments of elegant lyricism - gently curved walls suggest planetary contours, while subtle changes in paving level imbue the hardscape with a sense of undulating terrain. Massive boulders situated in the garden further reinforce the primeval quality. With its commanding presence and remarkable mineral palette, the Stone Garden Residence conjures the sublime emptiness of the desert, oceanic horizons, and celestial bodies. This is an environment distilled to its essence - a place for contemplation amidst the eternal cycles of nature. Design Team - Founded in 2003 by principals Anna Nakamura and Taiyo Jinno, EASTERN Design Office has emerged as one of Japan's most provocative and philosophical architecture practices. Headquartered in the cultural capital of Kyoto, the firm challenges conventional notions of spatial experience through highly conceptual and formally experimental works. EASTERN's portfolio showcases an impressive range, spanning residences, commercial buildings, urban interventions and speculative proposals. From the celebrated Slit House (2005) to recent works like the cavernous Hotel Ninja Black (2019), their designs manifest a stark yet poetic minimalism that distills architecture to its most primordial and sculptural essence. The studio's intellectual rigor is evidenced by their recognition in prestigious competitions, including prizes for major projects in Tianjin, China early in their tenure. Their output has also garnered acclaim through the World Architecture Festival Awards. Under Nakamura and Jinno's design leadership, EASTERN continues to push boundaries and posit architecture as a vehicle for metaphysical exploration. Each built work becomes a profound meditation on fundamental aspects of human existence through space, light, material and form.

  • TOM WOOD SHIBUYA TORAFU ARCHITECTS | Archicasting

  • 里亚斯海岸住宅 no.10 NOMURA Co., Ltd. | Archicasting

Project Name: House on the Rias Coast Location: Japan Design Team: no.10 NOMURA Co., Ltd. Total Floor Area: 567 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: Takumi Ota Feature: Project - Japanese architecture studio no.10 NOMURA Co., Ltd. completed the House on the Rias Coast project along the Sea of Japan coastline, creating a striking concrete residence that ingeniously responds to its dramatic coastal setting, weaving the unique characteristics of Japan's Rias coastline into the very core of its architectural concept. The project is positioned within a landscape renowned for its intricate indented coastline and spectacular "cave gate" rock formations, overlooking the magnificent views of the Sea of Japan. The project's most compelling design feature lies in its sophisticated reinterpretation of the local urban fabric -- the architects masterfully incorporated the area's distinctive "Masu-gata" alley configuration directly into the building's ground floor plan design. This traditional square-shaped street pattern with cranked intersections designed to deflect harsh northerly winds has been transformed into architectural language, creating a fragmented building volume that harmoniously integrates with the surrounding townscape while maintaining functional coherence. The building's form follows the natural topography with remarkable sensitivity. On the south elevation, the structure steps back toward the upper floors, creating a hill-like silhouette that ensures visual continuity with the cityscape. Conversely, the north facade rises boldly above its surroundings, forming a three-dimensional geometric intervention that serves both aesthetic and practical purposes by channeling wind patterns away from the urban core. Most striking is the building's material expression strategy, which directly mirrors the coastal geological characteristics. The lower level features concrete with an exposed aggregate finish that evokes the rocky shoreline texture, while the upper floors showcase wood-grained concrete formed with local cedar planks, representing the lush vegetation that crowns the coastal cliffs. This two-tiered material strategy extends seamlessly into the interior spaces, creating an unprecedented unity between architectural expression and natural environment. Both the aggregate and cedar board formwork materials are locally sourced, with the architects hoping that the expression of local materials would weave the site's unique landscape into the future. Through this thoughtful synthesis of local materials, traditional urban patterns, and contemporary architectural language, the house stands as an exemplary model of contextual design that enhances rather than disrupts its extraordinary environmental setting. Design Team - no.10 NOMURA Co., Ltd. stands as a distinguished spatial design consultancy, established in January 2020 as the specialized design division of NOMURA Co., Ltd.—one of Japan's most prestigious creators and managers of architectural spaces. The founding vision of no.10 emerged from the proven track record of its predecessor design team, onndo, which operated in collaborative alliance with the internationally acclaimed Nendo Inc. design studio. Under the creative direction of Chief Designer Keita Aono, no.10 pursues a holistic design methodology that encompasses interior design, architectural design, product design, and comprehensive design consulting services. Aono's multicultural background—born in Zurich in 1975 and educated at Osaka University of Arts—informs the firm's unique ability to synthesize Western and Eastern design sensibilities into coherent spatial narratives. The firm's design philosophy centers on the pursuit of "elegant simplicity from start to finish," a principle that manifests in projects characterized by refined material palettes, precise spatial proportions, and contextual sensitivity. no.10's portfolio demonstrates consistent excellence in creating environments that balance functional performance with experiential richness, establishing the firm as a significant contributor to Japan's contemporary architectural discourse. The practice's design thinking revolves around exploring the essence of things, seeking balance points and centers of gravity from the beginning to the end of projects. Through comprehensive professional services including interior design, architectural design, product design, and design consulting, no.10 is committed to expanding NOMURA Co., Ltd.'s global presence through innovative design practices, showcasing the essence and innovation of Japanese design on the international stage.
