Kariouk Architects | Archicasting

Feature: Project - Nestled in the verdant landscapes of rural Ontario, the Forest Retreat House by Kariouk Architects redefines the concept of a contemporary Canadian homestead. This impressive 10,300 square foot residence, completed in 2021, serves as a spacious sanctuary for a family seeking to reconnect with their roots and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region. The project's most striking feature is its expansive copper-clad roof, which extends for 60 meters and follows the site's topography. This tent-like structure not only provides a visual anchor for the home but also creates a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. The architects have masterfully balanced modern design principles with a sense of warmth and intimacy, avoiding the sterile box-like forms often associated with contemporary architecture. Sustainability and environmental consciousness are at the forefront of the design. The house is strategically positioned on an existing cleared hilltop, preserving the surrounding 100 acres of forest, meadows, and wetlands. This approach not only minimizes the project's ecological impact but also transforms the homeowners into custodians of the local ecosystem. The interior layout promotes family togetherness, with an open-plan design that encourages interaction while still providing private spaces. A dramatic suspended volume housing the children's bedrooms adds an element of architectural intrigue, accessible via a catwalk that traverses the home's central space. By incorporating locally sourced materials and celebrating craftsmanship, the Forest Retreat House offers a contemporary interpretation of rusticity that honors Canada's rich architectural heritage while embracing modern sustainable technologies. Design Team - Founded in 2001, Kariouk Architects has established itself as a dynamic force in the architectural landscape of Ottawa and beyond. Led by Principal Architect Paul Kariouk, who transitioned from New York City to Ottawa, the firm has cultivated a reputation for bespoke, client-centric design solutions that defy stylistic pigeonholing. Kariouk Architects' portfolio is a testament to their versatility and innovative approach. Each project, whether commercial or residential, emerges as a unique response to the client's needs, site conditions, and environmental considerations. This tailored methodology has garnered the firm numerous accolades, including a National American Institute of Architects Award and a New York American Institute for Architecture Merit Award. The firm's commitment to sustainability is evident in their multiple Canada Wood Council Awards, while their ranking among the Top Five Small Offices internationally by Architizer underscores their global impact.

Project Name: House M Location: Beijing , China Design Team: Atelier About Architecture Total Floor Area: 600 m² Completion: 2025 Photography: Yumeng Zhu Feature: Project - Atelier About Architecture created House M in eastern Beijing, a multi-story residence that thoughtfully responds to the homeowner's deeply embedded memories of home—low-rise buildings, windows opening directly onto greenery, sunlight with towering bookshelves, dark terrazzo floors, and flickering shadows of trees on red brick walls. These generational image memories have crystallized into the family's character, establishing an emotional and nostalgic foundation for this 600-square-meter architectural space—a unique temperament weaving together the new and the old. The project's most distinctive design feature lies in its innovative response to existing site constraints. The original building was enclosed by high walls with a central courtyard serving as the sole light source, trapping most interior spaces in shadow. Facing vertical development limitations, the architects employed a horizontal layering strategy, introducing five courtyards of varying scales. Atelier About Architecture's design philosophy centers on establishing "a new spatial system submerged beneath tall enclosing walls." Both large and small courtyards can be viewed and traversed, creating visual connections between different spatial units regardless of one's position, perfectly echoing the daily life of a multigenerational household. Spaces interconnect in myriad ways, with intentional gaps left between zones to allow glimpses across them, enabling the eye to continuously capture new information while wandering. The project's core highlight lies in its masterful manipulation of light. By altering spatial configurations and window orientations to guide light, the residence creates spatial experiences that capture the continuous daily changes of natural light. Front yard, side yard, terraces, rooftop, and atriums each correspond to different aspects of daily life, collectively offering rich plays of light and shadow. The spatial porosity between multiple courtyards amplifies visual perception beyond physical constraints, transforming darkness into gradations of shifting grays. In material selection, the architects categorized and synthesized the natural aging of original building materials, creating customized materials for the residence—pigmented concrete with coarse aggregate, cast into vertically ridged trapezoidal shapes prefabricated as 900x2200mm dry-hung panels. The roof utilizes natural titanium zinc metal roofing, connecting to terraces with integrally cast fine terrazzo flooring. These constructions and materials weave together to form physical experiences that permeate both interior and exterior spaces. By combining cultural memory, emotional retrospection, and contemporary architectural design, Atelier About Architecture created a modern sanctuary that transcends traditional residential functions, authentically expressing an architectural reflection on individual emotion and memory. Design Team - Founded in 2013 by architect Wang Ni, Atelier About Architecture has emerged as a pioneering force in contemporary Chinese architectural practice, consistently bridging Eastern philosophical principles with Western modernist sensibilities. Based in Beijing's Chaoyang District, the firm has established itself as a comprehensive design consultancy offering architectural, interior, landscape, furniture, and installation services across China's major metropolitan centers. Wang Ni, born in Chengdu in 1984, brings international perspective to her practice through her architectural education at the University of Sydney, where she earned both bachelor's and master's degrees. The studio's name, derived from the classical Chinese text "Thousand Character Classic," reflects its foundational philosophy of achieving balance through comprehensive understanding—a principle that manifests in their holistic design methodology. The firm's design philosophy centers on extracting quotidian beauty and transforming it into synesthetic contemporary experiences, exploring how Eastern and Western civilizations inform modern lifestyle practices. This approach has yielded notable projects including China Resources University headquarters in Xiong'an, W House, Apartment 55, and The Dog House, demonstrating versatility across typologies from institutional complexes to intimate residential interventions.

BIG | Archicasting

Arons & Gelauff architecten | Archicasting

Feature: Project - Arons & Gelauff Architecten has created a vibrant "Tiny Forest" of colorful residential towers for the De Kwekerij campus in Utrecht, Netherlands. The innovative housing development provides sustainable and affordable starter homes for young professionals and students through smart design moves. Rather than placing several large monolithic blocks as originally planned, the architects conceived a playful cluster of six slender towers that better capture the spirit of community living. The towers range from 4 to 7 stories tall, with their varying heights allowing optimal sunlight to reach all dwellings. A major design driver was maximizing efficiency and sustainability. The highly rationalized towers contain just two repeating apartment types of 45 square meters, with centralized mechanical systems eliminating the need for bulky utility spaces. Prefabricated components like kitchens and facades were simply slotted into the cast-in-place concrete frames. The façades are a kaleidoscope of cheerful hues inspired by the flowering trees planted around the buildings, blending the vivid architecture into the verdant landscape. Rotating the volumes creates a dynamic visual composition while ensuring privacy between units. Beneath this "Tiny Forest" lies an unexpected amenity - the remnants of an old atomic bunker repurposed as a rainwater storage pond, paying homage to the site's Cold War history. With integrated common spaces, bike facilities and upcoming museum, De Kwekerij is an exemplar of economical and community-focused urban living. Design Team - Founded in 1996, Arons & Gelauff architecten provides unique and visionary solutions to complex urban issues with innovative and sustainable development concepts. The firm is led by Arnoud Gelauff, Floor Arons and Tjeerd Beemsterboer, having a multidisciplinary team of around 25 architects and architectural technicians. Their design works seamlessly blend into the surrounding context, striking a balance between conceptual insight and architectural craftsmanship. Through close collaboration with developers, contractors, governments and residents, Arons & Gelauff is able to efficiently realize their ambitious plans. With extensive experience and expertise, the team organically combines innovative ideas with practical feasibility to create architectural masterpieces that stand the test of time. Regardless of the budget, Arons & Gelauff deftly navigates between functionality and creativity, contributing intelligent solutions for urban development. With a passionate and professional work ethic, they strive to exceed expectations by delivering exceptional and distinctive architectural designs of the highest quality.

LRO GmbH & Co. KG Free Architects BDA | Archicasting

Feature: Project - The recent expansion of the 1960s Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart by Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei Architekten creates a new urban boulevard while seamlessly integrating with the existing Brutalist structure. The 20,300 square-metre annex sensitively continues the raw concrete aesthetic of the original building, with intricate hand-crafted wooden formwork used to cast the new exposed concrete façade. This adds an organic, lively texture, contrasting beautifully with the smooth interior surfaces. The four-storey volume extends the library’s linear form, directly addressing the busy Konrad-Adenauer-Straße to reform a stately urban edge. An atrium visually connects the levels, drawing daylight into the centre. The ground floor also houses a new café, opening the building to the city. The first floor pedestrian bridge forms the main entrance, leading into a bright double-height lobby with information, exhibition space and access control. The building’s zig-zagging white concrete façade, with intermittent copper panels, establishes visual harmony with the older reading room. Inside, amenities like light carpeting and wood cladding bring warmth. Through sensitivity to context, materiality and user experience, the architects have created a functional, inviting next chapter for this important Stuttgart institution. Design Team - LRO has its roots in the architecture office founded by Arno Lederer in Stuttgart in 1979. He was joined in partnership by Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir in 1985 and Marc Oei in 1992. Over the past four decades, the firm has steadily grown into an award-winning practice of around 50 staff. Known for creating spaces that engage the human spirit through rich materiality and craft, LRO continues to push creative boundaries. The office prizes both architectural tradition and the questioning of existing contexts to forge new contemporary forms. An intensive, holistic design approach sees small teams nurture projects from competitions through construction. As founding partners Lederer and Ragnarsdóttir stepped back from management in recent years, leadership transitioned seamlessly. Directors Katja Pütter, Klaus Hildenbrand and Heiko Müller joined Oei at the helm in 2021 when the firm became LRO GmbH & Co. KG Freie Architekten BDA. This new generation stewards LRO’s legacy of design excellence, implementing their own vision while remaining true to deeply rooted humanist values that put user experience first.

Thellend Fortin Architectes | Archicasting

Feature: Project - Nestled in the heart of Quebec's Eastern Townships, the Orford House by Thellend Fortin Architectes is a striking example of contemporary residential design that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. This single-family dwelling, completed in 2022, replaces an older structure while maintaining a deep connection to the site's rich history and breathtaking landscape. The architects faced the challenge of blending traditional elements with modern aesthetics, resulting in a sophisticated interpretation of vernacular architecture. Double-sloped roofs and wood cladding nod to the region's heritage, while clean lines and expansive glazing anchor the home firmly in the present. What sets the Orford House apart is its thoughtful response to the site's topography. The design cleverly utilizes the sloping terrain to create a multi-level living experience that mimics the layers of the forest. From the garden level's grounded spaces to the canopy-like upper floor, the home offers a unique spatial journey that echoes the experience of walking through the woods. The project's commitment to environmental sensitivity is evident in its compact footprint and use of existing site elements. Large windows frame spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and forests, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior. This harmonious dialogue between architecture and nature creates a retreat that is both a testament to contemporary design and a celebration of its picturesque setting. Design Team - Founded in 2007, Thellend Fortin Architectes has established itself as a leading force in Quebec's architectural landscape. Led by the dynamic duo of Louis Thellend and Lisa-Marie Fortin, the firm has garnered recognition for its innovative approach to design that seamlessly integrates with context and prioritizes environmental sensitivity. The practice's portfolio showcases a diverse range of projects, from residential masterpieces like the Orford House to larger-scale institutional works. Their design philosophy is rooted in a deep understanding of contemporary living patterns and a commitment to addressing current architectural challenges. Thellend Fortin's work is characterized by a sophisticated interplay of form and function, often employing a material palette that references local vernacular while embracing modern aesthetics. The firm excels in site-specific solutions, as evidenced by their skillful manipulation of topography and integration of natural elements in projects like the Orford House. The principals bring a wealth of international experience to their practice. Lisa-Marie Fortin's background in community-based ecological residential development and Louis Thellend's expertise in large-scale institutional projects contribute to the firm's holistic approach to architecture. With numerous awards and accolades to their name, Thellend Fortin Architectes continues to push the boundaries of contemporary design, creating spaces that are not only visually striking but also deeply responsive to their environmental and cultural contexts.

Feature: Project - Safdie Architects has unveiled its newest masterpiece - the Surbana Jurong Campus, a sprawling 742,000-square-foot workplace that reimagines the traditional office building typology. Situated in Singapore's burgeoning Jurong Innovation District, the campus eschews the typical introverted office tower in favor of a more permeable, parklike environment designed to foster employee wellbeing. The campus comprises 10 pavilions of varying heights clustered around a central pedestrian spine, blurring the lines between interior and exterior. By elevating the structures off the ground, the terrain beneath is allowed to flourish, enveloping the lower floors in greenery to achieve a "treehouse effect." This pioneering approach integrates the campus seamlessly into the landscape, providing workers with abundant access to natural light, fresh air, and verdant spaces. Sustainability was paramount, with the project earning Singapore's highest Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy rating. Innovative passive design strategies and integrated building systems minimize energy demands. But the campus transcends mere eco-friendly credibility - it defines a new community-centric workspace typology. The publicly-accessible spine and amenities like a sunken courtyard, event spaces, and a 1,000-seat multipurpose hall transform the campus into a literal town square for the district. This ingenious interweaving of workplace, nature, and public realm make Surbana Jurong Campus a trailblazing exemplar of architecture prioritizing human-centric design. Design Team - Safdie Architects is an internationally acclaimed design practice founded in 1964 by Moshe Safdie, driven by ideals of innovation and human-centric placemaking. Under Safdie's visionary guidance and that of the firm's principals, the studio has pioneered a humanistic design philosophy rooted in Safdie's powerful metaphor "For Everyone a Garden." This ethos sees architecture as a generous act - crafting meaningful spaces that connect people to nature while catalyzing vibrant community life. Safdie Architects excels at translating these utopian aspirations into built form across diverse global contexts. The firm's landmark works like Habitat 67, Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, and Marina Bay Sands have redefined typologies and raised the bar for integration with context. More recent gems like Jewel Changi Airport and Raffles City Chongqing showcase Safdie's mastery of united mixed-use programs and public realms within a single cohesive vision. With a headquarter in Boston complemented by offices worldwide, Safdie Architects operates as a close-knit design collaborative. United by a commitment to ethical, research driven design imbued with social responsibility, the team deftly delivers ingenious solutions responsive to human needs and local cultures.

Feature: Project - Set amidst a lush woodland on a vast, flat plot in western Japan, House Y by Hayato Komatsu Architects adopts an innovative radial plan that allows the dwelling to engage with its picturesque surroundings from multiple vantage points. The secluded site offers tranquil views of the Seto Inland Sea to the northwest and dramatic mountains capes to the southeast. Rather than situating the house in isolation amid this expansive landscape, the architects devised a branching layout inspired by the form of a tree. A central living pavilion anchors the plan, with private bedroom wings radiating outward like boughs. Wider sections along these wings create lounge areas that blur the boundaries between indoors and out. The further one moves from the main living space toward the bedrooms, the more intimate and compressed the spaces become through lowered ceilings. This subtle compression and release heightens the sense of journey. Floor-to-ceiling glazing along the radiating wings frames shifting perspectives of the natural scenery with each step. Exterior spaces are delicately subdivided into a series of gardens tailored to distinct views - one framing the sunset, another the sea, a courtyard catching morning light, and so on. Residents can wander this secluded paradise, discovering anew its varied charms with each season and time of day. Through its innovative branching form, House Y poetically intertwines architecture and landscape into a unified, constantly unfolding experience. Design Team - Founded in 2009 by Hayato Komatsu, the eponymous HAYATO KOMATSU ARCHITECTS has emerged as one of Japan's most innovative architectural practices. Based in Hiroshima, the firm takes a multidisciplinary approach, offering services in architecture, interior design, landscape, and product design. Guided by a philosophy of finding the "gray" between architectural black and environmental white, their award-winning residential works skillfully negotiate boundaries while fostering comfortable living spaces imbued with a sense of openness and connection to context. HAYATO KOMATSU ARCHITECTS' refined yet warm modernism has earned publication in numerous prestigious journals. With their diverse, integrated approach and commitment to contextual sensitivity, this Hiroshima-based firm continues to produce architecture that elevates the human experience through its seamless blending of the manmade and organic worlds.

Feature: Project - Plan:b arquitectos has completed Gotham House, a striking rental apartment building in Medellín, Colombia that skilfully maximizes natural light and ventilation on a narrow urban site. The five-story development contains one apartment per floor, each benefitting from a deep plan with balconies and terraces at either end to enable effective cross-breezes and sun exposure. A standout element is the façade treatment which sees six structural concrete arches create a cadence of rectangular and curved openings across the front elevation. This arresting frontage gives the building a striking visual identity while pragmatically allowing ample daylight to penetrate deep into the floor plates. Internally, the apartments are planned with open-plan living spaces to the east and bedrooms to the west, ensuring the principal rooms receive morning and evening light respectively. Intermediate spaces like balconies provide coveted outdoor amenity for each residence. On the uppermost level, the penthouse enjoys a private roof terrace with pergolas framing views out over Medellín's cityscape. Throughout, Plan:b has created a sense of luminosity and permeability by expressing the raw concrete structural elements. With its bold street presence and intelligent environmental response, Gotham House represents an exemplary example of how to design generous, light-filled homes within the constraints of dense urban plots. Design Team - Founded in 2000 in Medellín, Colombia, Plan:b arquitectos is an acclaimed architectural practice led by principals Felipe Mesa and Federico Mesa. • Mohegan Trail住宅 Bates Masi + Architects | Archicasting

OMA | Archicasting

Project Name: JOMOO Headquarters Location: Xiamen City, China Design Team: OMA Total Floor Area: 25,000 m² Completion: 2025 Photography: Xia Zhi, Chen Hao Feature: The JOMOO Headquarters stands as a milestone achievement in corporate architecture, where OMA has created an architectural masterpiece that seamlessly bridges urban density with natural landscape on the edge of Xiamen's central business district. This project, serving as the first office campus for China's largest sanitaryware manufacturer JOMOO Group, exemplifies the architects' profound understanding and innovative reinterpretation of contemporary Chinese tower typology. The design philosophy centers on "duality" as the core guiding principle, manifesting through carefully orchestrated architectural form that achieves perfect expression. The continuous sculptural building volume integrates traditional base and tower concepts into a unified whole, creating a unique architectural language that responds to both urban high-rise density and embraces forested hills. The architects skillfully transformed contrasting environmental conditions into design advantages, creating revolutionary architectural expression that transcends conventional office typology. The space's central design element is the fluid architectural form that serves as a spatial anchor within the complex urban context, while establishing powerful architectural drama within the 25,000-square-meter scale. The facade features white ceramic stripes that cast rhythmic visual effects, not only transforming the monotonous nature of traditional office buildings but also making the architecture stand out in the urban skyline, creating a captivating visual experience. Most striking is the building's integration of public and corporate functions, whose unified programmatic framework provides diverse possibilities for spatial use. Traditional craft and high-tech production elements overlap and interweave, creating a unique atmosphere that embodies both JOMOO's brand mission and reflects Xiamen's cultural characteristics. These elements interact with carefully designed spatial sequences, generating multi-layered spatial experiences that elevate the corporate office experience far beyond conventional office buildings. The architects demonstrate exceptional attention to environmental response details, through the continuous flowing architectural form that allows employees and visitors to immediately perceive significant changes in spatial atmosphere when entering this tranquil office environment from the city's busy streets. This design approach reflects the architects' profound understanding of user experience, creating what the architects describe as "a corporate space that merges tradition with modernity, quietly amplifying the innovative power of the JOMOO brand." Design Team - OMA stands as a distinguished international architectural practice founded by Rem Koolhaas in 1975, based in Rotterdam, under the creative direction of the founder, the firm has developed a reputation for pioneering multidisciplinary practice that transcends conventional architectural boundaries. The practice operates on the foundation of "architectural thinking," applying rigorous spatial logic within the traditional boundaries of architecture and urbanism. Currently led by seven partners—Rem Koolhaas, Reinier de Graaf, Shohei Shigematsu, Iyad Alsaka, Chris van Duijn, Jason Long, and Managing Partner-Architect David Gianotten—OMA maintains offices in Rotterdam, New York, Hong Kong, and Australia. Their portfolio encompasses landmark projects such as CCTV Headquarters in Beijing (2012), Seattle Central Library (2004), Simone Veil Bridge in Bordeaux (2024), and internationally acclaimed architectural works. The firm's experimental approach to architectural design has been exemplified through numerous award-winning projects that have received prestigious international architectural awards. The firm's design philosophy emphasizes that cross-disciplinary collaboration is as important as architectural precision, not rushing to standardized architectural solutions but believing that architecture should be a result of thorough understanding of spatial conditions, cultural contexts, and programmatic requirements. Through in-depth dialogue with clients, they formulate the core elements of the project then offer their expertise to transform creative concepts into architectural reality. OMA believes that exceptional design comes from collaboration with specialized consultants and artisans, they love to challenge themselves and push the design boundary further, with innovation being the key to maintaining their practice vitality. Henning Larsen | Archicasting

Visa's striking new Building in San Francisco's Mission Rock neighborhood takes inspiration from California's iconic natural landscapes. Designed by Henning Larsen, the 13-story tower is a centerpiece of the new mixed-use development, establishing it as a place to work, live, and play. The building's ruggedly sculpted white facade evokes the basalt rock formations found in Yosemite National Park's Devils Postpile. Carved into smaller bays, the faceted precast concrete captures shifting light and shadows, giving the monolithic volume an ever-changing appearance befitting its waterfront location. "Drawing inspiration from the geologic formations of Yosemite, our design distills these influences into a 'neighborhood' scale by carving the massing into smaller bays, evoking the charm of San Francisco's traditional neighborhoods," explained Daniel Baumann, Partner and Design Director at Henning Larsen. The carved massing creates a dynamic formal expression from street level, reminiscent of the city's famous topography. Outdoor terraces wrap the tower from the second to fifth floors, crowned with wind-sheltered rooftop gardens offering views of the San Francisco skyline and bay. Part of the larger Mission Rock development by Tishman Speyer and the San Francisco Giants, the Visa building establishes an architectural centerpiece anchoring the new 28-acre neighborhood with residences, offices, parks and amenities. Founded in 1959 by Danish architect Henning Larsen, the eponymous firm has carved out a reputation for masterfully blending daylight into their designs - earning Larsen himself the moniker "the master of light." Project Name: Shunde Cloud Egret Wetland Museum Location: Shunde District, Foshan, China Design Team: Link-Arc Architecture Building Area: 1,800 m² Completion Date: 2024 Photography: Tian Fangfang, EXISTENCE ARCHITECTURE, WoodX AlexanDENG, Guo Shiyu Principal Designer: Lu Yichen Project Leader: Guo Shiyu Project Team: Zhou Rui, Zhang Jiaqi, Zhong Zhenwei, Liu Zida, Cheng Jingbin, Luis Ausin, Yang Lingyun, Qi Feng, Xu Jiarui, Hua Xinning, Sarah Kenney, Li Zishi, Isabella Chong Executive Architect/MEP Design: Aoyi Architectural Engineering Design Co., Ltd. Client: China Resources Land, Foshan Shunde District Government Feature: Project - In the heart of Shunde, China, the Cloud Egret Wetland Museum emerges as a groundbreaking architectural intervention that masterfully balances human observation with ecological preservation. Designed by Link-Arc Architecture, this 1,800-square-meter structure represents a revolutionary approach to wildlife observation architecture, seamlessly integrating into a habitat that hosts 25,000 egrets. The museum's most striking feature is its composition of four stacked concrete tubes, each precisely rotated to capture optimal viewing angles of the surrounding wetland ecosystem. This innovative design creates what the architects call "viewing frames" at different heights, offering visitors a unique perspective of nature from root level to treetop. The tubes are strategically positioned behind an existing row of dawn redwood trees, allowing the building to virtually disappear into the subtropical forest when viewed from the egret island. The project's origin story adds a compelling layer of significance – it began with a single bamboo grove planted 26 years ago by a local conservationist nicknamed "Bird Uncle," whose dedication transformed the area into an urban sanctuary for egrets. The museum now stands as a testament to this legacy, with the local government expanding the protected area thirteenfold. What sets this museum apart is its sophisticated structural solution. The intersecting concrete tubes create a triangular central atrium through Boolean subtraction, serving as a shared viewpoint where visitors can simultaneously observe multiple perspectives of the landscape. The building's exterior features board-formed concrete using pine wood, creating a natural texture that resonates with the surrounding forest. Perhaps most ingeniously, the roof is covered with lotus pools, effectively camouflaging the building's fifth elevation and further integrating it into the wetland environment. The project exemplifies sustainable architecture through its meticulous attention to tree preservation. After mapping 560 existing trees, the architects carefully positioned and rotated each level to minimize the impact on the natural environment while maximizing optimal bird-watching vantage points. This thoughtful approach to environmental stewardship sets a new standard for ecological architecture, demonstrating how buildings can serve human needs while respecting and enhancing their natural context. Design Team - Studio Link-Arc, established in New York, stands as a distinguished international architectural practice that exemplifies the intersection of global design thinking and contextual sensitivity. Founded on the principle of connecting diverse perspectives and resources, the firm's name reflects its collaborative ethos in architectural design, urban planning, and spatial arts. Under the leadership of Principal Architect Yichen Lu, together with Senior Managers Letty Lau and Luis Ausin in New York, and supported by regional directors in Shanghai and Shenzhen, the practice has evolved into a multi-nodal design powerhouse since its inception. The firm operates through three strategic hubs - New York, Shanghai, and Shenzhen - allowing for a dynamic synthesis of Eastern and Western architectural paradigms. Link-Arc's portfolio spans various typologies and scales, from cultural institutions to civic landmarks. Their design methodology is characterized by a rigorous investigation of site context and programmatic elements, leading to architecture that transcends mere functionality to create meaningful spatial experiences. Notable projects include the award-winning China Pavilion at Milan Expo 2015, the Nanjing Bay Art Center (recipient of the 2022 Asian Architects Association Gold Award), and the China Resources Archive Library. The practice's architectural philosophy emphasizes the creation of new spatial orders through careful consideration of site relationships and contextual elements. Their work is distinguished by a sophisticated integration of technical innovation, cultural sensitivity, and sustainable practices, resulting in buildings that respond thoughtfully to both their immediate environment and broader societal needs.
