Situated at the edge of a nearly thousand-acre East China Sea prairie, backed by Dawanshan remnants and overlooking mudflat pastures, it serves as a vital hub connecting the southern coastal highway and the Damuyang coastal area. The project's most striking feature is its unique sequential viewing design—the building is cleverly divided into two functional zones: a reception area with public restrooms near the road, and a light dining area hidden behind ginkgo trees. This 334,057-square-meter development responds to Hangzhou's development needs as the central business district of a world-class urban cluster sub-center in the Yangtze River Delta, strategically positioned in the connecting area between Qiantang Century City and Qianjiang New City. Its unique design draws inspiration from the concept of "setting sail," integrating five towers into the plot and river in a sailboat form, symbolizing riding the waves of prosperity and vigorous development. These towers feature varying heights and overlapping layers that create a vibrant silhouette, resembling the dynamic posture of sails catching the wind, echoing the surrounding environment and forming a distinctive skyline along the Qiantang River. The towers symbolize the combination of sail and wind, complemented by staggered glass curtain walls. The curves of the podium reflect the flowing river currents, together creating a tall and lightweight architectural silhouette that harmoniously blends with the waterfront greenery, presenting a beauty of natural harmony. The overall planning emphasizes connection with nature. The ingenious layout of the five towers ensures permeability and maximizes views of the Qiantang River. Through public spaces such as pedestrian paths, Guanyun Qiantang City is closely connected with the natural environment, creating multi-dimensional waterfront plazas and terraced green spaces. The project enjoys an excellent location, adjacent to the Qiantang River on the west with premium riverfront views and urban visibility. The architects' most significant intervention was unifying two previously separate structures – the east and west wings – through a connecting roof while maintaining the building's historical integrity. Rather than concealing the multiple layers of renovation that the building has undergone over its century-long existence, STUDIO ALUC deliberately highlighted these temporal intersections, creating what they describe as "points where carpentry from different eras meet reveal a unique beauty and charm." The spatial organization reflects a deep understanding of traditional machiya architecture while incorporating modern luxury amenities. The original earthen floor (doma) in the west wing has been preserved and now flows into two carefully positioned courtyard gardens (tsuboniwa) that serve as natural light wells.
