DRAA | Archicasting

Project Name: Mumo Museum of Motorcycles Location: Puerto Octay , Chile Design Team: DRAA Total Floor Area: 1200 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: Marcos Zegers Feature: Project - DRAA reimagined cultural exhibition space in southern Chile, creating the Mumo Museum of Motorcycles——a masterpiece practice in timber construction that transforms traditional craftsmanship into contemporary structural innovation. Located in Puerto Octay and completed in 2024, this 1200-square-meter project directly addresses the challenge of housing the country's largest collection of pre-corporate era vintage motorcycles while responding to the romantic cultural context along the Pan-American Highway. The project's genius lies in rejecting the enclosed forms of traditional museums, instead adopting a strategy of three staggered wooden pavilions. Lead architects Nicolás del Río and Felipe Camus chose not to fight against the site's slope, but carefully orchestrated exhibition spaces elevated on stepped concrete plinths that serve as both independent narrative units and continuous circulation flows. This creates what the architects describe as "segmented yet undivided exhibition halls"——allowing visitors to experience necessary narrative pauses within a continuous spatial experience. The design directly responds to the client's request for architecture rooted in local tradition, inheriting the legacy of German colonization in southern Chile from the mid-19th century. These historical elements are reinterpreted through contemporary timber construction techniques, most notably CNC-machined laminated pino insigne components that employ woven wooden beam systems to transform each roof plane into rigid diaphragms. These structural elements connect through steel rings disguised as skylights, creating structural poetry that bridges interior and exterior spaces. The Mumo Museum's spatial strategy transforms traditional exhibition typologies into more flexible forms. Multiple pavilions——from ground-level service spaces to elevated exhibition halls——capture spectacular views of Lake Llanquihue and Osorno Volcano while creating what the architects call "column-free exhibition spaces" that allow hundreds of motorcycles to be displayed freely. This structural innovation amplifies display possibilities beyond traditional museum constraints. The result is architecture as technological heritage——every construction detail reveals the technological distance between the original German settlers and contemporary Chilean society. Thermally treated pino insigne exterior cladding becomes the primary material expression, transitioning from natural wood tones through weathering processes to silver-gray surfaces, creating what the architects describe as "wooden buildings clad in wood"——a pure construction logic that maps the temporal layers of regional architectural culture. Design Team - Founded in 2012 by architect Nicolás del Río López in Santiago, Chile, DRAA has emerged as a pioneering force in contemporary Latin American architectural practice, consistently bridging rigorous design methodology with material innovation technologies. With offices in Santiago and Frutillar, the firm has established itself as a comprehensive architectural consultancy providing professional design services across diverse building typologies throughout Chile and the broader Latin American region. Del Río López, a graduate of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2001) with a Master's degree from Oxford Brookes University (2011), co-leads the practice with director Felipe Camus Dávila (PUC 2007), bringing international academic background to their work. The DRAA name reflects Del Río Arquitectos Asociados' foundational philosophy of achieving design excellence through collaboration——a principle that manifests throughout their comprehensive project methodology. The firm's design philosophy centers on thorough investigation of diverse building typologies, with particular emphasis on the outcomes of tectonic expression and structural innovation. This approach synthesizes proportional analysis, tectonics and structure, and responsible crossover with materials and energy efficiency, yielding significant works from timber museums to residential projects that demonstrate continuous advancement of contemporary architectural technical boundaries. DRAA's mastery of CNC-manufactured timber construction technologies and engineered connection systems, along with applications of advanced construction techniques such as Rothoblaas engineered screws, underscores their contribution to Chile's evolving architectural discourse, positioning them as thought leaders in contemporary material innovation practice——honoring regional construction traditions while embracing progressive technological methodologies.

APOLLO | Archicasting

Project Name: MORANDI Location: Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan Design Team: APOLLO Architects & Associates Total Floor Area: 185.44 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: Kimiou Nishikawa Feature: Project - APOLLO Architects & Associates, in collaboration with renowned product designer Nicola Gallizia, has elevated storage systems from mere furniture to the defining architectural element in this Tokyo residence. Completed in May 2024, the 185-square-meter apartment renovation named "MORANDI" presents an innovative conceptual model for contemporary residential design. The project's distinguishing characteristic is its revolutionary approach to storage design—transforming signature system units from Italian furniture brand Molteni&C into the structural core of the residence. Rather than treating storage as an afterthought, Satoshi Kurosaki and Gallizia orchestrated a seamless flow of storage elements that not only connect rooms but simultaneously define the spatial hierarchy throughout the home. The residence's aesthetic is characterized by a dialogue between natural sunrise oak cabinet doors and dark oak ceiling panels, creating a precise visual rhythm throughout the space. The designers introduced brass-toned accents through carefully selected artworks and lighting fixtures, while silver travertine and Ceppo stone-patterned ceramic tiles in wet areas further enhance the Italian luxury aesthetic. Perhaps the most compelling design element is the choreographed sequence of movement. As residents traverse the apartment, they experience a journey guided by the continuous storage system from public to private spaces. This architectural promenade reveals fascinating parallels between Italian design elegance and traditional Japanese spatial concepts, where spaces are gently delineated through thoughtfully designed elements rather than hard divisions. The family room, which doubles as a welcoming entrance area, exemplifies this approach with storage systems that flow uninterrupted from living to dining to kitchen zones, creating a theatrical spatial experience. This continuity transforms everyday domestic activities into a sophisticated performance set against a backdrop of meticulous craftsmanship. MORANDI represents a significant architectural statement that challenges conventional relationships between furniture and space, demonstrating how storage systems can transcend functionality to become the primary architectural syntax through which space is articulated and experienced. The work fully demonstrates Kurosaki's attention to detail and ability to translate complex design concepts into harmonious living environments. Design Team - Founded by Satoshi Kurosaki in 2000 and incorporated in 2008, APOLLO Architects & Associates has established itself as one of Japan's most distinguished architecture firms specializing in contemporary residential design. Based in Tokyo, the practice has built an impressive portfolio characterized by sophisticated minimalism, innovative spatial compositions, and meticulous attention to material expression. Under Kurosaki's leadership, the firm has garnered international recognition through numerous prestigious awards, including multiple iF Design Awards, DNA Paris Design Awards, and DFA Design for Asia Awards. Their projects have been consistently nominated for ArchDaily's Building of the Year, with their distinctive residential works "TIMELESS," "ESPRIT," and "LAXUS" receiving particular acclaim in recent years. The practice maintains a diverse team of talented architects led by Chief Architect Osamu Fujii, with specialists bringing expertise from renowned institutions including Waseda University, Kyoto Institute of Technology, and Tama Art University. This international perspective is complemented by Kurosaki's academic involvement as a former lecturer at Keio University's Department of System Design Engineering. As a registered APEC Architect and member of the Japan Institute of Architects, Kurosaki has positioned APOLLO as a leading voice in contemporary Japanese residential architecture, with each project representing a carefully calibrated balance between functionality, aesthetic refinement, and contextual sensitivity.

Total Floor Area: 1,720.63 m² Site Area: 4,239.29 m² Structure: Reinforced Concrete + Partial Timber Construction Floors: 2 Stories Above Ground Design Period: June 2019 - February 2023 Construction Period: March 2023 - March 2024 Completion: March 2024 Photographer: Sobajima Toshihiro Feature: Project - In the heart of Japan's Kanto Plain, Dai 2 Nadeshiko Nursery School emerges as a thoughtfully designed educational facility that harmoniously blends architectural innovation with environmental consciousness. This newly completed project, accommodating over 200 children, represents a sophisticated response to both pedagogical needs and climatic challenges in Kumagaya, famously known as Japan's hottest city. The building's most striking feature is its distinctive roofline, which poetically mirrors the surrounding mountain ranges visible from the site. From Mount Fuji to Mount Tsukuba, the architectural form creates a visual dialogue with these iconic peaks, embedding the local landscape into the children's daily experience. This design choice transforms the building into a memory-making device, where early childhood experiences are intrinsically linked to the regional geography. The two-story structure employs a hybrid construction system that combines reinforced concrete and timber. The ground floor, housing facilities for children aged 0-2, utilizes robust concrete construction to withstand active play, while the upper level, dedicated to 3-5 year olds, features a more delicate wooden structure. Although fire regulations necessitate covering the complex wooden framework with fire-resistant plasterboard, this combination enables the creation of the building's signature free-form roof. In response to Kumagaya's extreme heat, the architects implemented multiple cooling strategies. The building achieves the highest insulation rating (Grade 4), while external blinds on the second floor provide essential solar control. The design incorporates covered walkways, pilotis, and eaves that create vital shade, complemented by an innovative mist system that leverages evaporative cooling. The facility's relationship with its outdoor spaces is particularly noteworthy. Each classroom maintains a strong connection to the exterior, opening onto a series of thoughtfully designed spaces including a secure courtyard, covered plaza, and open decks that merge with the surrounding rural landscape. This arrangement gives children the freedom to choose their preferred environment while ensuring their safety through careful oversight. Design Team - Founded in 2005, Kawakubo Tomoyasu Architects is a Tokyo-based architectural firm making waves with their innovative residential and commercial projects. Led by principal architect Tomoyasu Kawakubo, a first-class certified architect, the firm's tight-knit team approaches each commission with fresh creative energy. Kawakubo cut his teeth at the renowned Isozaki Arata & Associates before branching out on his own in 2002. His mastery of spatial planning and keen eye for detail shine through in designs that maximize functionality while expressing a distinct aesthetic vision. The firm's residential work, such as the award-winning Kuramae Small House and Nishihara Row Houses, demonstrates an ability to craft highly livable spaces on constrained urban sites. With Kawakubo at the helm, the practice embraces an interdisciplinary approach, often blurring the lines between architecture and product design. This cross-pollination results in compelling environments where customized furniture and fixtures seamlessly integrate with the architectural concepts. Beyond designing innovative buildings, the firm is deeply engaged in architectural education. Kawakubo has taught at Nihon University's College of Engineering since 2014 and serves as a visiting researcher, nurturing the next generation of talent.

IF (Integrated Field) | Archicasting

Project Name: Central Nakhon Sawan Location: Nakhon Sawan, Thailand Design Team: IF (Integrated Field) Total Floor Area: 77,500 m² Completion: 2024 Photography: W Workspace Feature: Project - In the heart of Thailand's Nakhon Sawan province, the Central Nakhon Sawan project by IF (Integrated Field) aimed to create a multifunctional space that blends modern design with local culture and natural beauty. This 77,500-square-meter mixed-use development emerges as a compelling example of contextually sensitive design that celebrates local identity while embracing modern functionality. The project's most distinctive feature is its innovative plaza, which ingeniously navigates a 3-meter elevation change without resorting to conventional stairs. This thoughtfully terraced landscape creates a seamless, accessible public realm that preserves existing trees while providing space for gathering, relaxation, and recreation for visitors of all abilities. The roof of the main foyer, which connects the plaza to the building, consists of layered, curved forms inspired by local village houses, softening the transition between the open plaza and the interior. This design reflects the project's goal of merging modern architecture with cultural elements. Perhaps most captivating is the building's dramatic two-tone atrium, conceived as an architectural homage to the convergence of the Nan and Ping rivers, integrating red and green materials to represent the merging waters. This triple-volume space serves as both a navigational landmark and helps delineate different zones of the mall for visitors. Through these innovative elements, the design team has crafted a multifunctional environment that responds to contemporary needs while remaining deeply rooted in its context. Central Nakhon Sawan transcends its role as a shopping destination to become a genuine civic asset—a welcoming hub that honors the past while embracing the future. Design Team - IF (Integrated Field) was founded in July 2011 as a Thailand-based design office, formed by architects, an interior architect, a landscape architect and an industrial designer, intended to work together in as many fields as possible to create work from the integrated inputs as their core saying, "IF works in the Field of Integration." IF's methodology centers on identifying the specified question for each project through rigorous inquiry to understand its "core," and develop the design based on that issue throughout the whole process. The firm's interdisciplinary composition enables a holistic design process that transcends conventional disciplinary boundaries, synthesizing expertise across multiple fields to develop nuanced spatial solutions that respond to both programmatic requirements and contextual conditions. The practice's portfolio demonstrates remarkable versatility, encompassing residential, commercial, and cultural typologies. Projects like Central Nakhon Sawan exemplify IF's ability to create architecturally sophisticated spaces that balance formal innovation with functional clarity while responding sensitively to local cultural narratives. In just over a decade since its inception, IF has emerged as a significant voice in contemporary Thai architecture, consistently delivering projects characterized by conceptual rigor, material sensitivity, and spatial intelligence—qualities that have positioned the practice at the forefront of the region's evolving design discourse.

AtelierM + Nicolas Krause | Archicasting

OFFICE INAINN | Archicasting

Wiki World | Archicasting

项目页面列出的主创建筑师为Mu Wei、Feng Zhaoxian、Wu Baorong、He Wen、Xu Xiaodong、Liao Xiaotian、Wang Yuanying及Chen Liang。

This 334,057-square-meter development responds to Hangzhou's development needs as the central business district of a world-class urban cluster sub-center in the Yangtze River Delta, strategically positioned in the connecting area between Qiantang Century City and Qianjiang New City. Its unique design draws inspiration from the concept of "setting sail," integrating five towers into the plot and river in a sailboat form, symbolizing riding the waves of prosperity and vigorous development. These towers feature varying heights and overlapping layers that create a vibrant silhouette, resembling the dynamic posture of sails catching the wind, echoing the surrounding environment and forming a distinctive skyline along the Qiantang River. The towers symbolize the combination of sail and wind, complemented by staggered glass curtain walls. The curves of the podium reflect the flowing river currents, together creating a tall and lightweight architectural silhouette that harmoniously blends with the waterfront greenery, presenting a beauty of natural harmony. The overall planning emphasizes connection with nature. The ingenious layout of the five towers ensures permeability and maximizes views of the Qiantang River. Through public spaces such as pedestrian paths, Guanyun Qiantang City is closely connected with the natural environment, creating multi-dimensional waterfront plazas and terraced green spaces. The project enjoys an excellent location, adjacent to the Qiantang River on the west with premium riverfront views and urban visibility. It overlooks the Olympic Sports Expo Centre to the south, with Xinxianfeng River passing on the west, offering superior landscape resources. The surrounding area is near the planned Metro Lines 6 and 2, with three passages providing quick access to Qianjiang New City across the river. Ghibli Park Valley of Witches Location: Aichi Prefecture, Japan Design Team: Studio Ghibli + NIHON SEKKEI Area: 2.9 ha Completion: 2024 Photography: J-LIGHTS / Koichiro Itamura, Kawasumi・Kobayashi Kenji Photograph Office Feature: Project - Studio Ghibli and NIHON SEKKEI have collaboratively created the "Valley of Witches" in Ghibli Park, Aichi Prefecture, as the final area to open among the park's five zones. This project inherits the philosophy of the 2005 Aichi Expo, aiming to "learn from the mechanism of nature, solve global issues, and create a sustainable society." The design team departed from conventional theme park approaches, instead adopting a method that fuses European architectural styles with fantastical elements to transform iconic scenes from "Kiki's Delivery Service," "Howl's Moving Castle," and "Earwig and the Witch" into three-dimensional spatial experiences. The entire design is founded on three concepts: Learning from Time, Thinking of People, and Nurturing Environmental Sustainability. The project integrates traditional construction techniques with modern technology, employing historical building methods such as hollow-core brick masonry, dry-stone construction, half-timber framing, and cruck truss structures. Materials including stone, brick, wood, iron, copper, plaster, and tiles were meticulously selected to create spaces that stimulate visitors' imagination and engage all sensory faculties. At the center of the Valley stands an awe-inspiring 20-meter-tall replica of Howl's Moving Castle, which periodically emits white smoke and features rotating structural elements. The castle interior faithfully recreates scenes from the film, including the living room, Calcifer's hearth, and Howl's bedroom. The area also introduces Ghibli Park's first electric attractions—a carousel and flying ride—while maintaining harmony with the surrounding natural environment. The landscape design thoughtfully integrates with the existing topography, preserving the natural setting while enhancing the immersive quality of the experience. The entire area is structured as a cohesive townscape featuring Sophie's hat shop, Kiki's bakery, and Earwig's witch residence, along with distinctive structures such as the Flying Oven and the Tower of Aviators. This design, which deliberately blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy, creates a dreamlike environment allowing visitors to step freely between Ghibli's world and reality. For its innovative achievements in architecture and expansion of public interest in the field, the Ghibli Park "Valley of Witches" was awarded a Special Prize in the "2025 Japan Architecture Award." Design Team - Founded on June 15, 1985, by directors Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, producer Toshio Suzuki, and Yasuyoshi Tokuma, Studio Ghibli has evolved over nearly four decades from an animation studio into a creative force with profound influence on spatial narrative and architectural imagination. Based in Koganei, Tokyo, the studio maintains a strong presence in the animation industry while expanding its portfolio across various media formats. Under the current leadership of Honorary Chairman Hayao Miyazaki, Chairman Toshio Suzuki, President Hiroyuki Fukuda, and Director Gorō Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli continues to blur the boundaries between fantasy and built environment. The "Valley of Witches" project was supervised by Gorō Miyazaki, director of several Studio Ghibli films and leader of this project. Throughout the design process, his sketches combined with designers' proposals underwent meticulous review and continuous feedback to ensure faithful realization of the envisioned world. Discussions throughout the development centered around questions such as "Why can't it be done?" and "How can we make it possible?"—ongoing dialogues that represented some of the project's greatest challenges. As an institution focused on creating spaces that foster imagination and social connection, Studio Ghibli has demonstrated exceptional skill in preserving narrative integrity while creating functional, buildable spaces through the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka (2001) and the comprehensive Ghibli Park development (2022-2024), presenting animated fantasy worlds to audiences in physical, architectural form.

Project Name: UCCA Clay Museum Location: Yixing, China Design Team: Kengo Kuma & Associates Area: 3,437 m² Completion: 2024 Photographers: Fangfang Tian, Eiichi Kano Feature: Project - Japanese architect Kengo Kuma has unveiled a sculptural ceramics museum in Yixing, China, featuring an undulating form clad in hand-glazed terracotta panels that pays homage to the region's millennium-old pottery tradition. The UCCA Clay Museum, completed in 2024, emerges from its post-industrial context as a contemporary interpretation of both the local landscape and architectural vernacular. Situated on the former grounds of traditional pottery factories, the 3,437-square-metre structure serves as a cultural bridge between Yixing's rich ceramic heritage and its future as a hub for artistic innovation. The museum's most striking feature is its mountain-like silhouette, which draws inspiration from two significant local references: the historic Shushan Mountain, celebrated in Northern Song dynasty literature, and the traditional "dragon kilns" that have fired pottery in the region for over six centuries. This dual reference creates a powerful architectural narrative that anchors the building in both the physical and cultural landscape of Yixing. The structure's complex geometry is achieved through an innovative inverted shell roof, characterized by virtual sphere-carved surfaces supported by a sophisticated four-layer wooden lattice beam system. This engineering solution not only provides structural integrity but also creates a series of dramatic interior spaces that guide visitors through the museum's exhibitions. Developed in close collaboration with local artisans, the exterior is composed of custom-made ceramic panels featuring varied glazing techniques that create subtle color gradations. These panels respond dynamically to changing light conditions, producing an ever-shifting visual experience that mirrors the transformative nature of the ceramic firing process. The building's form is strategically punctured to establish meaningful connections with its surroundings, creating sight lines and physical links to the adjacent pottery factory and canal. The materiality of the facade panels – warm and slightly textured – offers a tactile experience reminiscent of traditional Chinese tea ware, transforming the building envelope into a large-scale ceramic vessel that houses and celebrates the very craft it represents. Design Team - Founded in 1990 by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA) has established itself as a global leader in thoughtful, context-driven design. With a team of highly skilled professionals across offices in Tokyo, Paris, Beijing, and Shanghai, the firm has completed innovative projects in over 40 countries, seamlessly blending architecture with the natural environment. Kengo Kuma 's design philosophy emphasizes a deep connection to place, using natural materials and sensitive interventions to craft buildings that elevate the human experience while respecting local cultures and ecologies. From large-scale cultural institutions to intimate residential retreats, KKAA's portfolio showcases a mastery of scale and typology, united by a commitment to sustainability and an innate understanding of how architecture can foster meaningful relationships between people and their surroundings. With Kengo Kuma at the helm, KKAA continues to push the boundaries of contemporary architecture, integrating innovative technologies and traditional craftsmanship to realize visionary designs that redefine the role of the built environment. As the firm enters its fourth decade, its reputation for excellence and innovation continues to grow, solidifying its position as a global leader in the field.

SUEP. + Tomoki Nagase Architects | Archicasting

SUEP.
